The first time X had found one of Dr. Light's upgrade capsule, the hologram of his creator said something that stuck with X: "Now it seems you are destined to fight." X didn't believe it; he didn't care much for the idea of fate, much less the idea some supreme force was going to keep throwing Mavericks his way.
And yet here he was, about to face off with an old enemy who'd risen from the grave. Again. And for such a pointless reason, too. X had been hoping that his stay at Zenithia could be a nonviolent one, and he hated the fact that he was taking up arms just because of Vile's "eye for an eye" attitude. It was probably better to indulge him before he got the idea to threaten anyone else at Zenithia, but that didn't change the fact that X wasn't looking forward to this. At least he had Zero at his side... though X couldn't help being nervous about that too, considering what had happened last time.
The courtyard was empty when they arrived. X took the chance to flick through his punch cards, withdrawing the one marked as Ray Splasher. He hesitated to insert the card in his arm, though, sparing a glance to Zero. "Think he'll bring his ride armor with him?" No sense in wasting ammo when his charged shots would probably be more effective.
