widescreen wednesday - the hunger games, mockingjay part 1

Dec 03, 2014 18:44

Are you, are you
Coming to the tree?
They strung up a man
They say who murdered three.
Strange things did happen here
No stranger would it be
If we met at midnight
In the hanging tree.

about halfway through the movie jennifer lawrence (katniss) starts to sing this eerily moody song and it's a showstopper.

the word of mouth on this movie wasn't great. "a placeholder", "draggy" and "angsty teenage girls" were some of the things i heard. still. I had greatly enjoyed catching fire and there was no way i could just watch the final movie without watching its first part.

and as usual when i have low expectations, i rather enjoyed the ride. it turned out to be more intelligent and heartfelt than the average action blockbuster. i did miss the excess of the capitol and some of the high-tech wizardry of the games in progress. all in all this movie was a little more khaki than i would have liked. but i guess that was a point it was trying to make. and even though i had read the plot synopsis way back when the first movie came out it was still a shock to see the final (for this part) scene play out.

jennifer lawrence is a great actress but she is well supported by her equally illustrious cast mates.

well worth watching, even though it will make you with it was already the end of 2015.
