Well here we are at the marvellous Acropolis museum, situated at the foot of the Acropolis. I had a couple of nights in Athens after the cruise but I didn't take that many photographs so I will spare you a couple of entries. I had tried to get to the temple of Poseidon at Cape Sounion by bus but that didn't work out as planned. But I did enjoy my visit to the Byzantine Museum, which gave me a new appreciation of the Eastern Roman Empire.
leaving the sculptures in situ on the acropolis is out of the question as the city's atmospehere would erode them over time.
below are samplings of what's on offer at the Byzantine Museum.
this is my second visit to Athens, and I very much still see it as a necessary evil to get through in order to visit the much more attractive islands of Greece.
