A Journeychild's Prayer

Apr 04, 2009 01:23

Our Lord thou art in Heaven,

Another one of Your little children is about to embark of a journey for his dreams.

However, this child straps his gear and his hopes
upon his back upon a most perilous time,
to a most perilous land,
for a most perilous path.
Mighty giants across Your sacred domain fall
from their pedestals of gold, and their bodies
impact upon the foundation thunderously, trampling
other children like this one under, cutting short
their right to happiness that You've graciously bestowed
upon them.
The world that You've graciously created for us suffer
in the midst of a drought, where even
the most modest and obedient of Your children cannot even feed
themselves or each other with bread and water.
Despair grips the world, as
this drought continues to deprive us
of the bounties You've given to us, as signs of Your love to us.

And yet, despite all the suffering
surrounding him, this little child continues to gaze
in the distance for the future he covets.
Truly this little child is a foolish one, for he is staking
the fortunes of a family You've blessed
with modest wealth on a future that surely cannot be achieved easily.
In a land where the language and the culture will challenge
him to bow down in subservience, to grab hold aggressively
upon opportunity in manners unlike him up to today.
For a future that judges harshly
against talent, against mediocrity, against personality.
Where hounds gather to ward off
the cold, kill off their own, protect their own,
all at once in the whirlwind of time.
In the midst of a worldwide drought, no less.
Even so, this little child chooses now, more than ever, to reach
his hand out and grasp for what calls him
forth, as You blessed him to seek after,
in the midst of the all-consuming
fires and swirling dark abyss of reality.

Your Grace may not see this
little child worthy of the modest little throne You've given
us called a dream career.
If You deem it so, it shall be so.
This little child only asks humbly of You, as he prepares
for battle, to safeguard him from the ways of the Devil, to shield
him from Temptation and Vengeful Fury, as such has always plagued
this child before.
And regardless of Your decision to bless his
life with that he desires in his life, he asks
humbly for Your kindly hands to guide him safely through his life.

So this little child has prayed on
his knees before the Almighty Lord, on
His throne in Heaven, overlooking
with eyes of kindness and justice.

Amen.

I'm not religious, I'm not Christian (I'm actually Taoist). This is more of a shot at some hackneyed poetry than anything else, but this form of thought-writing helps me relax and solidify my resolve.
