Okies so start where I left off.
The last doctor I saw declared the bizzare swelling of my leg to be a localized infection. With pain, swelling and mild temperature increase as the only symptoms it was time for someone to take an idea and run with it. For about a week I had trouble walking or standing for long periods of time. But I have been all better for about a month now and shall try to avoid mystifying medical staff for a while.
My summer stats class has searved me well. I got and A and the work helped time pass quickly.
scuba classes also helped with that. I am now certified to to open water diving ^_^. I had to miss the first Crystal River trip due to the leg thing but by waiting a month I got to go with Dr. Bakers group. I met his son and wife who are appropriately cool for him company. It was great to see him outside of lab. It is his scientific work which intrigues me most but he is just a wonderful person.
So wonderful that he hooked me up with an interview in the Natural Products department at McQuarie University in Syndey! Which is where I will be spending July so it works out wonderfully. How scary is that? My first official grad school visit. This implies I will one day not be an undergrad...
I leave for Sydney Wednesday the 27th of June at 6:00 am. and Arrive around 8:00 am on their friday morning (US saturday night). the meat of this trip is to visit my boyfriend Jason in his hometown. Meet his friends and family, see his classic haunts and all that jazz. While there I also want to do hiking in the mountains and Scuba dive. he will be working a few days a week so that leaves pleanty of time for me to wonder around on my own.
I have emotions about this, many.
My work in Baker's lab is just getting cool! I seperated a few interesting extracts and took an NMR of it. From the results the grad students don't know what it is so its possible that I am the first person to have isolated the molecules in those vials. How cool is that? the crude extras from the organism I am working with showed anti-cancer activity. A few molecules have been assumed to be the active ones in there. It is possible though that mine are also active and have never been studied before. Mang! I can see this stuff being enthralling for many years.
So thats my life right now. Go forth and enjoy yours
