Chapter 13

ZeldaQueen: I'm going to assume that you all remember how the last chapter ended, because I honestly don't want to repeat it. So yeah, Zoey and Heath are in the car and it's a clear parallel to the old make-out scenes from movies. Zoey's slurping at the cut on his neck and he's gasping and going "Oh yeah...more baby...more!"

"I felt Heath's arms go around me as mine wrapped around his shoulders so that I could hold him more firmly against my mouth. His head fell back and I heard him groan 'yes.' One of his hands cupped my butt and the other one went under my sweater to squeeze my breast"

ZeldaQueen: You know, I suspect that it's things like this that give this series a reputation for being so "sexy". Normally I wouldn't mind. Except...she's only doing this because, as pointed out in the last chapter, she was pretty much drugged. And on Heath's end, he seems to be rather addicted to something that is honestly dangerous for him. He thinks that cutting his neck open and having his girlfriend drink from it is the most fantastic thing ever. He's clearly unbalanced. And...no one really ever notices any of this.

So no, I don't see that as sexy. I see that as rather frightening.

Oh, and again I remind you all, Zoey is an avatar of Kristin Cast. Kristin and her mother wrote in Zoey having her ass and breasts groped as she drained the blood from her boyfriend.

Yeah.

So this all goes on for awhile, and Zoey spends the entire time narrating how she feels all animal like. It finally stops when a security guard bangs on the window and shouts at them to stop making out and go home. Heath hides his bleeding neck by burying Zoey's face against it and calls out to the officer that they're leaving. When the guard is gone, Zoey gets a tissue for Heath to mop up his neck and asks how he can be so calm about what just happened. He replies with "Making-out with you is totally normal for me. You've been driving me crazy for years". We get a pointless mention of how Zoey has already told Heath that she isn't ready for sex and he's fine with that, but "I knew that if I allowed myself to continue seeing him I wouldn't be a virgin much longer, and not because Heath would pressure me into it. It would be because I couldn't control my bloodlust". Dear lord, please let the squickiness end! Finally, Zoey heads off, though not before promising to try to meet Heath at Starbucks after Friday's game.

Back at the House of Night, Zoey gets the disposable phone and punches in the number for the FBI. When someone answers, she remembers that Damien told her to sound kind of angry and crazy and not give a chance for them to ask any questions. She announces to them about the bomb and claims to be a member of the terrorist group "Nature's Jihad". Um, Cast ladies? There's already enough unfortunate implications in this book. You really don't need to go fishing for any more.

Anyway, the call goes through and she quickly hangs up. She then calls the local news station, which she says was her idea to help them keep track of how the "bomb threat" pans out. She tells the woman who answers about the bomb threat and fumbles a little, but manages to hang up alright. She then nearly collapses.

Stevie Rae, who had been asleep, gets up and asks how it went. There's some "funny" banter in which Stevie Rae apparently was so stupid that she temporarily forgot that they weren't actually members of that Nature's Jihad group, because I guess she's unable to differentiate between acting and reality or something.

Stevie Rae then asks why Zoey looks like she just went out. Zoey replies that she had just been out and that she saw Heath. Stevie Rae sits down on the bed and starts squeeing and asking for details, and I start hitting my head on the wall. She rolls her eyes when Zoey says that they talked, because I guess it's just that unbelievable that a teenage guy and girl just sit and have a talk together. She continues to squee when Zoey brings up how he kicked alcohol and pot, and then brings up "Stank Kayla" and bashes her for no reason at all.

And then Stevie Rae asks if Zoey still likes Heath. After waffling for a bit, Zoey admits that yes, she does. Stevie Rae points out that Erik is coming back the next day and that Zoey has to get things sorted because she has "like a zillion guys". Um no, no she doesn't. She has Erik and she has Heath. I refuse to count Blake, because first of all they're not actually in a relationship and second of all he's a freaking sleazebag! Oh and speaking of Blake, he's going to be back tomorrow as well! Isn't that just fan-fucking-tastic?

Stevie Rae asks Zoey which of the three guys she likes the best and Zoey just sputters and finally says that she can't decide. Oy. Stevie Rae drags her off for a breakfast of Count Chocula and brown pop because hey, we needed to be reminded of that stupid running gag
