Chapter 23
Davy Jones
ZeldaQueen: \~/
I had heard her scream,
ZeldaQueen: Either there's a psychic link at work, or Kate has one serious set of pipes
felt her fear, her pain.
ZeldaQueen: Ah, so it's the former. Erm, you going to explain that Gethesemane? Or are we just going to go with "IT'S TWU WUV!"
My worst fears had been confirmed. Calypso still had the power to kill even those who had not yet been born,
ZeldaQueen: Um, how? Why would the Goddess of the Ocean ever have the power to invoke an abortion? She can control the ocean! She can't just randomly make people fall over dead! If that were the case, she'd have just struck down the Brethren where they stood the instant she was freed!
and she had used it in cold blood.
ZeldaQueen: Well of course, the brig hardly has heating!
I had never intended for Kate to suffer, especially at the hands of that heathen!
ZeldaQueen: Uh huh. And that's why you left her there, with Calypso fully conscious and healthy and made no effort to rescue Kate or kill Calypso. Sure.
Also, "the heathen" is going to be to Calypso what "the whelp" was to Will. How lovely \~/\~/
I rose from the organ bench and made my way out to the deck. The crew were going about their habitual activities, scurrying about this way and that, hardly taking any notice of me. Even if they'd had, I was much too preoccupied to heed them.
ZeldaQueen: Yes, he's very busy brooding. Leave him alone
I walked to the rail, looking out towards the black phantom that was the Pearl. I could still feel her pain, so icy and overpowering. I was no stranger to pain, that much was certain, but she was an innocent woman; she had done nothing wrong to warrant this.
ZeldaQueen: SHE. IS. A. PIRATE! MURDER! ARSON! THIEVING! GETHESEMANE, ARE YOU COMPLETELY INCAPABLE OF GRASPING THAT CONCEPT?
I loved Kate, and I always would love her. I realized at that moment that I was capable of love even without a heart;
ZeldaQueen: FOR GOD'S SAKE, HOW?
I cared for a woman enough to feel her pain and her loss as my own.
ZeldaQueen: Oh wait, I know how. The power of the Sue. Carry on
I chuckled inwardly.
It seems you've failed yet again, Calypso.
ZeldaQueen: ...Except she didn't fail. She killed the Sue spawn and started tormenting Kate.
Oh, and don't think I didn't notice how that was all just one big wank-fest over how Jones totally doesn't love Calypso and instead is crazy about the Sues
Jack
ZeldaQueen: \~/
The cold stillness heralding the coming dawn seemed to drape itself quietly about the cabin, chasing away what remained of the preceeding night.
ZeldaQueen: *is nearly blinded by all of the purple*
Kate and I had not slept nor eaten for nearly two days, but instead mourned.
ZeldaQueen: I'm sure the crew really appreciates that. You know, for my peace of mind, I'm going to pretend that Will and Elizabeth had the brains to take command while Jack and Kate were being all weepy in their cabin
The crew had been oblivious to Kate's pregnancy, and the look of bewilderment and confusion on their faces when they had responded to her screams had soon turned to sadness upon registering what had transpired.
ZeldaQueen: Meanwhile, under their breaths, they were singing "Ding Dong, the Sue is Dead"
Our tears had ceased, but our pain had not. We had held onto one another through the night, and now, as my wife lay her head on my chest, I wrapped my arms tightly about her.
ZeldaQueen: Because even in this...erm...time of mourning, we must have an image of the Sue prettily and artfully sprawled over the muscled masculinity of Jack Sparrow *vomits*
A soft knock sounded at the door.
"Sir," said Gibbs from beyond the door. "Beckett's aboard."
ZeldaQueen: (Gibbs) "He wants to check our electric meter"
I felt Kate tense in my arms. "Tell Beckett to go away."
ZeldaQueen: *stares* "Tell Beckett to go away"? Are you serious? This isn't a house call, it's a smug snake of a villain knocking down your door! Yes, I'm sure that he'll just reschedule tormenting you at whatever date's most convenient to you. Good God! She's such a whiny baby!
"You know very well that I can't do that, love," I murmured to her as I gently removed her from my arms and rose from the bed.
ZeldaQueen: I like to think that she just lay on the ground like a slug as it's her only defense, whining about how people are so meeeeeeean to her
I bent forth and kissed her temple. "I'll return in a little while."
She nodded solemnly, and I softly exited the room. Upon entering the corridor, Gibbs stopped me after looking about to be sure of the corridor's vacancy.
"Jack, what's wrong with Kate?" he asked softly.
ZeldaQueen: (Gibbs) "What drama are we supposed to be concerning ourselves with this time?"
I bit my lower lip; I had not told the crew what they had witnessed that night.
ZeldaQueen: So what, did you just tell them that Kate's appendix burst open? It's ye olden days. There's only so many things they'll chalk it up to
"She...miscarried," I answered at length.
He was taken aback. "What?"
ZeldaQueen: (Gibbs) "The Suethor's really resorting to that old tactic? Why, it was old hat when my grandaddy sailed the seven seas!"
"She was pregnant."
ZeldaQueen: Yes, I've found that people generally are pregnant before they miscarry
"Jack, I'm...I'm sorry. This must be hard on ye."
"It's Kate I'm vexed about."
ZeldaQueen: (Jack) "No one's allowed to be worried over but her, after all. If they do, she has them thrown overboard"
"We're only hours away from Shipwreck Cove," I reported when Beckett summoned me. "We should be there by sundown."
He seemed pleased. "Good. Everything is going according to plan."
ZeldaQueen: (Beckett) "The sporkers are in place and the weapons are ready"
He poured himself a small glass of brandy. "Tell me, Mr. Sparrow. I've heard that something has happened to your wife. What was it again? A miscarriage?"
ZeldaQueen: And Beckett would care about this...why?
All I can think about is The Great Gatsby, when Daisy asks Nick if he wants to know the secret about the butler's nose and Nick snarkily replies that it's the only reason he came over
I said nothing.
"One less pirate to hang," Beckett said as he sipped from the glass. "It's quite tiring, having to execute death warrants."
ZeldaQueen: Dude, you're quickly becoming very likable again. Sort of like Balthazar, really. Mind you don't drip brandy on your mustache, or it might make it difficult for twirling
I glared at him. "I'll not have you speaking of my child that way."
ZeldaQueen: I've rolled my eyes so many times that they're starting to get sore
He set the glass down. "Your child is dead."
I withdrew my flintlock and aimed it at his head. "Say that again."
ZeldaQueen: There was a blast from behind Jack, and he crumpled to the ground. A British soldier dutifully wiped clean the smoking pistol as Beckett looked at the large bullet hole in the back of Jack's head with mild interest. "Your child is dead, Jack," he said. "I did hope you had more common sense than that, really. Ah well, c'est la vie"
"If you value your wife's life, you'll lower your weapon."
ZeldaQueen: What is with these people all using Kate as a bargaining chip? I hate how she's constantly being reduced to nothing more than a bartering tool. I hate it almost as much as I hate the fact that this is someone's fantasy and that we're supposed to buy that Kate's a Strong Female Character
I slowly did so. He chuckled.
"A man always has a price," he said as he looked at me. "Even one he hopes never to pay."
ZeldaQueen: (Beckett) "I saved that line for you instead of Governor Swann. How do you like it?"
(Author's Note: w00t! Two updates in one day! I'm on a roll...)
ZeldaQueen: Is that why you constantly want your readers to butter you up?
