ZeldaQueen: Well, for those of you hoping that we got to skip a pathetic hacking-up of Sparrow's deal with Jones...I'm very, very sorry

Chapter 15: Jones' Deal

Jack’s Point of View

Upon seeing one of Jones’s crew grab Kate, I felt my heart jump into my throat, knowing that Jones hadn’t taken the deal. I yelled out to her, but my voice was drowned by the raging storm. I turned to Gibbs, purely desperate.

ZeldaQueen: Unfortunately, ladies and gents, this pretty much sets the scene for this chapter. Get ready for the wangst over Kate being a dumbass

“We have to save her,” I told him. “Jones didn’t take the deal - he’ll kill her!”

ZeldaQueen: Fantastic. The sooner the better

“It’s suicide to go now, Captain!” cried Gibbs. “You can bargain with Jones, and demand that he bring Kate back here!”

ZeldaQueen: Wait, what? So it's suicide to go over, but they should bargain with Jones to...what?

Okay. Gethesemane, listen and listen carefully. Jack was not planning on Jones getting on his ship. Why do you think he had the lanterns extinguished? He had hoped that Jones would be so busy with Will that he'd not notice him!

All at once, the storm calmed. Silence ensued, and I waited for a silent moment

ZeldaQueen: No, really? Silence ensued when the moment is silent? I never would have guessed!

before raising the spyglass to my eye. I gasped upon seeing a pair of soulless black eyes staring straight into mine; he had seen.

ZeldaQueen: You know, that's exactly how Kate described Jones. So either Gethesemane's suggesting that Kate is a masculine dude with a streak of infidelity and a lot of wangst, or that Jack is a whiny chick who spouts purple prose like water from a burst pipe

As I lowered the spyglass, Davy Jones appeared before me, causing the rest of the crew to shrink back and cower in fear of the legendary oceanic ruler.

ZeldaQueen: You seem to be ignoring the fact that the other fish people were there, holding knives to their throats. What is it with Gethesemane sucking the Awesome out of everything?

“Ye have a debt to pay,” he growled to me. “You’ve been captain of the Black Pearl for thirteen years. That was our agreement.”

ZeldaQueen: Fantastic. Jones, kill this idiot doppleganger and the Sue. I will love you forever and not write erotic fanfiction about you, I promise!

I glanced quickly over his shoulder and at his terrifying ship, knowing that I had to try to bargain to get Kate back. While I wasn’t ready to repay my debt, I wasn’t willing to lose my wife, either.

ZeldaQueen: Okay, he just said he didn't want to lose Kate, but he also didn't want to give himself up to save her. Even though this chapter began with him shouting how they had to brave the odds to save her.

You know, Jack Sparrow was, by canon, a bastard who put his own wellbeing before everyone else. In this fic though, we're supposed to like him for doing it. We're supposed to think it's justified.

Oh, to Hell with it

“Ah, technically I’ve been captain for two years-then I was viciously mutinied upon.”

“But a captain nonetheless,” Jones snapped. “Have you not all this time introduced yourself as Captain Jack Sparrow?”

ZeldaQueen: I'm honestly at a loss as to why Gethesemane left out the first bit, "Then you were a poor captain". My guess is that either she couldn't bring herself to say anything bad about the heavenly Johnny Depp to any degree, or that she hoped that cutting out a few bits will make her plagiarism of plot not count

“Not that I recall. You have my payment. One soul, to serve on your ship. He’s already over there,” I countered, referring to Will.

ZeldaQueen: Okay, this is just horrible. We're supposed to be happy that Jack is all gung-ho to save Kate, but doesn't give to shits about rescuing Will?

Fuck you, Gethesemane. Will is a million times more heroic than your socipathic protagonists

“You can’t trade!” Davy Jones roared. “You can’t substitute - a painful lesson that a certain Katherine Marina Sparrow had to learn the hard way.”

ZeldaQueen: *squeals with delight* Kill her! Do it, pleasepleaseplease!!!

I felt my blood beginning to boil. “What have you done to her?”

ZeldaQueen: Um, is Will in this scene at all? Hello?

“Nothing - yet. However, Sparrow, if you don’t repay your debt, I will see to it personally that your wife joins the others in death.”

ZeldaQueen: Yes! Do it!

My eyes widened. “Let her go - you’ve got the whelp.”

ZeldaQueen: FUCK YOU!

Look Gethesmane, either we're supposed to believe that Sparrow isn't the selfish but lovable bastard he was in canon, or he is. If he was his canon self, he'd be perfectly fine with letting Kate and Will both go hang. If he's supposed to be the sweetie-pie you keep making him out to be, he ought to care about saving both!

“One soul is not the same as another!” he hissed. “I have told you before. Now, if you want your wife back safe and sound, perhaps we can compromise.”

ZeldaQueen: Jones, please, I know what Gethesemane has in store for you. For the love of everything good and holy, do yourself a favor and just kill her. And don't do it via tentacles, that just turns her on

I found an opportunity to bargain. If, by some stroke of bloody luck, I could find a way to save Kate’s soul as well as my own, I would take it.

ZeldaQueen: (Jack) "Will Turner? Pfft, who cares about him? It's not like he's supposed to be the protagonist or anything!"

“Ah, so we’ve established the proposal is sound in principle. Now we’re just haggling over a price.”

ZeldaQueen: Didn't Jones just say that he can't trade or substitute?

Jones looked at me, interest clearly peaked. “As has been the case before, I’m oddly compelled to listen to you.”

ZeldaQueen: Dude, that was so stilted I thought it was out of The Legend of Rah and the Muggles. Gethesemane, do you have any idea how bad a sign that is?

I recalled Kate’s words and smiled inwardly.

Everyone is oddly compelled to listen to you.

ZeldaQueen: Actually, no. Everyone is compelled to listen to the Sue, and she follows Jack's dick like a mouse after a piece of cheese.

I'm so sorry

I saw that the window of opportunity was wide open, and I pounced. “Just how many souls do you think my soul is worth?”

Jones pondered. “One hundred souls, three days.”

ZeldaQueen: How many souls does "three days" equal?

I flashed a sparkling grin. “You’re a diamond, mate. Send me back the boy and my wife, and I’ll get started right off.”

“I keep the boy and your wife as good faith payments. That only leaves you ninety-eight more to go.”

ZeldaQueen: Impossible. Sues do not have souls

“Have you met Will Turner? He’s noble and heroic, a terrific soprano…he’s worth at least four. And did I mention he’s in love…with a girl? Due to be married. To a lovely young lady. You hate that malarkey.”

ZeldaQueen: Good God, this is horrible! And how the holy heck would extolling Will's virtues convince Jones to let Kate go?

Jones stood his ground. “I keep the boy,” he snapped.

ZeldaQueen: Erm, Jones? Jack wasn't trying to get Will. Quite the opposite, in fact. He was trying to get you to lower your payment

“You owe ninety-eight souls. In three days. But I wonder, Sparrow…can you live with this? Can you condemn an innocent man - a friend - to a lifetime of servitude? In your name, while you roam free?”

ZeldaQueen: If it's Will, then Hell yeah

I considered the obvious question briefly. “Yep. I’m good with it.”

ZeldaQueen: Given this context, I'm glad he's going to be eaten by the Kraken

“And what about your wife?”

“Have you even met my wife? The woman is a force to be reckoned with, mate,” I said.

ZeldaQueen: So he goes on about how great the Sue is, but for Will he just says "Yep, cool, I'm fine with leaving him to his fate, I don't care if he can take care of himself or not".

And I ask you, when has Kate shown herself to be "a force to be reckoned with"? She's done nothing of any use this fic!

Then, recalling Tia Dalma’s story of Jones, I added, “She’s as unchanging and harsh and untamable as the sea.”

ZeldaQueen: Gethesemane, your foreshadowing sucks.

I also hope Jones kills you or Kate or both for that. Incidentally, didn't Jack just try to convince Jones to keep Will captive, since keeping him from Elizabeth would denying True Love and Jones hates that? If Jack compares his relationship with Kate to that of Jones and his former love (I'm not saying it's Calypso because I'm not an idiot), I'd imagine that would piss Jones off and cause him to keep the two apart purely out of spite

A flicker of anger was reflected in his eyes, and I knew immediately that I had put Kate’s life further in jeopardy.

ZeldaQueen: Great. Enrage him some more!

“If she’s as harsh as you say, Sparrow, then perhaps she deserves to be a part of the sea.”

ZeldaQueen: DUDE. THROW HER OVERBOARD, I BEG OF YOU!

He then added icily, “Three days. Or else Turner will become a part of my crew, and your wife will die.”

ZeldaQueen: Like I said, no one here cares about Will. I have no idea why Gethesemane has even kept him in this fic
