▲ Target Practice

Mar 07, 2009 19:55

[He's spent a good portion of the afternoon gathering arrows here, there, and everywhere, stacking them in a large pile fifty paces from a couple bales of hay supporting a target he dragged out onto the field. He doesn't know how many he has exactly. It doesn't matter. There are plenty, and they'll do. Most of them aren't in the best condition, but he doesn't give a damn. They'll fly mostly true.]

[It's not like anyone is ever going to use them again.]

[He decides he has enough -- no, more like he just gets tired of hauling arrows around -- and stands next to the pile, bow in hand. Then he raises his bow and starts firing at the target, one by one by one. He stops only when he's out of arrows, and then he lowers his arms and stares at the arrow-filled target.]

[His pile might be gone, but he isn't out of arrows himself. He pulls one from his quiver and mutters the word for magical fire; the arrowhead bursts into flame.]

Burn.

[The hay catches fire and starts burning, and it doesn't take much for the arrows to catch as well.]

Burn.

[He flops down to the ground, dropping his bow and staring at the dancing, raging flames. If he lets himself, he can pretend he's home, in his Hyrule, and that his Link is just seconds away from commenting on the size of the fire...]

Burn to ashes.
