[Sand.

He first became aware of the sand, of the multitude of it: sand under his fingers, sand against his face, sand on his clothes. There was heat, too, though even through the cobwebs of his awareness, he could tell that it was rapidly fading and cooling, and that it would become cold before much longer.

His hands, clawed and gnarled, fisted in the rough grains, and he pushed himself up. He opened his eyes, and let out a faint, eerie moan as he looked around.

The desert. This was not part of the Twilight. The desert was the orginial home of his god: a blessed place. A safe haven.

He didn't pause to think, then, that it was strange he should wake when he was... elsewhere before. He was not to question the will of his god, no matter where he wished to drag him from. Of course, the circumstances could have been better... face down in the sand was hardly dignified.

Standing and straightening to his full height, his helmet clattered over his head, but kept his lower face visible, tasting the air and exhaling in a low, rattling breath.]

My god...
