"Quit trying to make me be the tsukkomi!"
Subaru was indignant. Maru was giggling; it turned into a full, hearty laugh as Subaru's protests continued.
In the midst of Maru's mirth, Subaru finally got frustrated completely and pushed Maru in the chest. Instinctively, Maru's reaction to the pressure was to reach up and grab the offending arms. His fingers encircled Subaru's wrists, and he shoved the other man backward gently. As they fell, he belatedly remembered that they were standing in front of the couch.
It took a moment for Maru to settle his legs comfortably around Subaru. He intended to hold the other man down until he stopped protesting. Subaru made an attempt to wrench his hands away. Maru just laughed. The second attempt went a little better, but Maru managed to catch Subaru's hands.
Their palms pressed together. Maru's grip loosened. Subaru's arms slacked. Maru's smile softened and Subaru reflected it with a smile of his own. Without thinking, Maru pushed Subaru's hands above his head and leaned down a little, looking intently into his eyes.
"What?" Subaru asked, with a little force.
"What?" Maru echoed.
"What?" Subaru repeated, voice softening.
Maru pressed a soft kiss to Subaru's nose, then rested his forehead against Subaru's.
"Ryu-chan~"
"What~?" Maru's voice was gentle this time, barely above a whisper.
Subaru swallowed. "I lo--"
"Shhhh," Maru whispered. "Don't say it. I know."
