End o' the year writing meme.

Dec 30, 2010 09:58

Stolen from entangled_now.

Total number of completed stories: 199~ (Includes comment_fic fills, a few of my twitfic as well as my [ficlet] and [fic] posts.
Total word count: Approximately 58,544 words for the comment_fic, 56,431 for my NaNo, at least 10k for the [ficlet] and [fic] posts, so I'll go with about 124,975~ words?

Overall Thoughts

Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?
I'm mostly sitting here boggling at the numbers and wondering what was in my water, as this is waaaaay more than I was expecting to write this year. It is a good thing, but holy carp that is a LOT of words.

What's your own favorite story of the year?
Uhm. You mean, besides my NaNoWriMo? That definitely gets a spot as one of my favorites, as even with the time limit I think that I wrote a good story that carried the plot along and had character development and such.

I'm still overly fond of From Outside Creation, My sister, my spouse and Temptation, but that's cause those three were experiments with my usual style with plots and/or characters that make those stories sing to me. I mean, if I could write more stuff like Temptation, I'd be darned pleased with myself. I mean, when the only major issue I have with my stuff is that it's got a rare fandom crossed into it so I can't get it too much attention, then I'm doing darned well. (And seriously guys go read Angel Sanctuary you will not regret it!)

So. Yes. Let's say that my favorite is Sequence Breaking aka my NaNo as I lived with that beast for a month and it still turned out well.

Did you take any writing risks this year?
You mean besides my yearly challenge of NaNoWriMo? (And omg I actually won it this year I still boggle at myself for that.)

I'd say...no, not really. I signed up for a bingo card, and did agree to write a ton of xmas giftfics, but those aren't risks per-se. I'm not a great risk-taker, actually.

Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the New Year?
Profic? What's that?

Fanfic goals, though! I have those! I want to get at least another two xmas giftfics done, I want to start another thing for that bingo card, I want to start the writing bits on that fic _bluebells & I are planning, and plot & character wise I want to write a proper Raphael-centric fic, as his character needs exploration. Also, from my little list of 'remember to check these pairings out eventually', I want to try Rosiel/Lucifer, Lucifer/Dean, Lucifer/Raphael, Katan + Sam meeting somewhere, a sequel to From Outside Creation, Sam/Michael, Sam/Crowley, more vesselfic, my big longfic involving the Assistant that I'm plotting for, and more besides. (I mean, I need to get that Gabriel/Dean/Gabriel PWP fic done for morganoconner too!)

And I haven't even touched on my plot idea .txt file, as that has stuff in there I wanna explore. (Sam/Lucifer sci-fi AU! Angels-n-Demons in High School AU! (w/ Alastair as the art teacher, Chuck as principle, & War as the Gym Teacher)

See, I don't need to take risks, I'm already a danger to myself. I get ideas.

Now I hope this meme means goals for the New Year as in, 'what are your goals for next year' and not 'what I want to write before 1/1/2011' as askfnaflka I can't write all that in two days.

Best & Worst Of

My best story of this year:
See above, under my favorite story. I can't quantify 'best' so I go with 'one I liked the most'.

My most popular story of this year:
Uh...Sequence Breaking? I don't know; what did you guys like the most out of all my stuff?

Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion:
Every single one of my Angel Sanctuary/Supernatural fics as while I'm used to small fandoms I don't like it when I've got an audience of about three people. Read Angel Sanctuary, people! It's awesome!

But honestly while I'd like it if I got more comments I don't want to be overly greedy. I've gotten way more attention fic-wise then I expected, and that feels good. :3

Most fun story to write:
....uhhhh. All of them? I usually have fun while writing, and I can't really pick out favorites.

Story with the single sexiest moment:
I have no idea. You guys would be better judges of this. Besides, I'm not really a PWP writer. I prefer plot 'n characters when writing. (I do love reading PWP though!) And I know, sexy fic doesn't have to be PWP but oh jeez I don't even know.

Most "Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story:
From Outside Creation. :D No doubt about it. I wrote it with big mental images of H.R. Giger art, I was overly descriptive...I think I wrote it well, even if I was overly cruel to Gabriel in it.

Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters:
Uh...jeepers, I have no idea. I'm not very good at this self-examination stuff. I do know that reading other people's stuff (ravenspear; entangled_now; degr00ve; _bluebells etc) has shifted my POV about a variety of characters and pairings but I don't know about my own stuff.

Hardest story to write:
Flippin' Jeeves & Wooster gift ficlets for people. >.< I can't imitate Wodehouse, keeping them IC is HARD and jeepers creepers it's been ages since I was in the fandom.

Biggest Disappointment:
Eh. Some of my c_f fills I'm not entirely happy with, some of my fic has spots that I don't like, but there's no giant 'I regret writing this' fic. Sure, there's stuff that I'd rather never see the light of day again, but that's par for the course. I'll just keep writing and stick it deeper in the archives.

Biggest Surprise:
A whim posting of a SPN/A.S. prompt at c_f got me to meet two good fans who were all over discussing the crossover?

No, wait, I've got it: one of the two best writers for the Hellsing fandom that I read a lot of several years ago when I was in the fandom actually commenting on some of my stuff out of the blue. I mean, it felt like what I imagine a normal writer would feel if Stephen King or Neil Gaiman or some really good n successful writer came over and said 'I like your stuff'. I'm still overly embarrassed and pleased and such over that.

And also realizing how much I'd written in the first or second month of being in the SPN fandom. I had no idea that this show jabber_moose was making me watch would inspire me so much.

Most Unintentionally Telling Story:
My Lucifer/Crowley piece, the Lucifer/Castiel pieces, and any darkfic. I am something of a sadist when writing (or rping) sometimes. It's because I get into tough spots IRL or fights with parents or such and so instead of ripping a pillow apart I do horrible things to characters. It's a coping mechanism, I think.

Either way it is very satisfying to put on my dark music and be the villain every now and again.

Now, if there are other pieces that are saying a lot about me that I'm not aware of, well, fine? Unless you're somehow getting my Social Security and address from them, I'm fine if people know that I'm a terminally lazy & shy super-geek among other things.

Short version: 'Holy carp, I wrote HOW much?' + 'You guys are the best ever. <3'
