General update

Hmm... I'm in exam time now, which should be... interesting. Tomorrow especially, since it's databases, for which I skipped a lot of lectures on the grounds that they were not really good enough to be worth making it in at 9AM for. The unit, overall, has been a bit of a fiasco, but hopefully some careful last-minute study will let me get a decent mark in the exam.

Databases was also interesting for being one of the few units to have a coursework due in after the exam has finished. Which is very, very, weird, but eh.

I'm overall a little concerned with how I'll do this year. I know I did well in some areas, but I also know I did badly in others, so hopefully my overall average won't be low enough for them to not let me onto the final year. I think, at least, based on my estimates of how well I did in Japanese and the games project, that being kicked out is probably not a huge risk, but it'd be no fun to have to retake things. =|

As for other exams... AI & Logic is the day after databases, and another one which'd need lots of studying; unlike databases, I went to most lectures, but that doesn't mean I understood much. O_o

After that is about a week until the software engineering unit, which doesn't look too bad, though it seems like there are a lot of questions which'd benefit from experience and in-depth knowledge that I'm only starting to build up. Still, with about a week to look over stuff, I think I can do decently at least?

A few days later is Cryptography, which looks nasty. And a little after that is the Web development unit, which shouldn't be too bad, but has a few odd issues attached; I messed up dates enough to not do the last coursework, missing out on 20% of the unit, and so need to both compensate for that, and the fact that I won't have gained some of the knowledge by experience. On the other hand, though, I do know a fair bit about internet-stuff, so I'm not that worried about the areas and material it'd cover. I also have a reasonable average so far, since the first assignment was info-searching (which I got full marks on* ^^), and the third involved image-making in GIMP and Inkscape. Both of which I use anyway, and so effectively got free marks for.

And then after that, I'm done, though I might be re-doing stuff if things go decently. =O

In other news... the games project was very fun towards the end, and I'm apparently to get £120 for my part in it ("The cheque is in the post"). I've also made moves to eBay myself a s939 Opteron to power Umbra-tan up with, though I can't be certain about compatibility, and also suspect (based on research I did after the fact) that I may have chosen a very dubious individual to do business with. Still, I have plans in place, so hopefully shouldn't end up burned, unless I misjudge things...

I also just** finished the last two missions of Worms 2, which I'd been playing through. The penultimate one is really hard, but I managed it in the end by exploiting the last computer worm's position (it blew itself up, since I didn't get unlucky about wind direction and it didn't really I'd left it no move), which is really cool, since I was stuck on that for a while. ^^

...Okay, I guess that's enough.

* According to my Mutants & Masterminds group, I have strong google-fu, based upon being able to put the name "psychometry" to a phenomenon by searching something like 'touch object read history power'. Since I'm also quite careful about fact-checking, it's not a huge surprise that I was amongst the six who aced that assignment. But it is cool~. =D

** I can be very irresponsible at times.
