Read this just now on theonering.net:
The BIG news has finally hit. A Ringer Spy who was recently in the New York offices of New Line Cinema has reported that they clearly saw 'The Hobbit' on the film schedule for 2007. Here's what the spy had to say:
"Please leave my email anonymous as I have some very exciting news to report. I was in New Line's NY offices to discuss upcoming projects when I clearly saw something very intriguing on a year planner. 'The Hobbit' was clearly marked on what looked like July 2007. I couldn't exactly take a moment to investigate the calendar with my audience in the room, but it definitely said 'The Hobbit'. Lets hope this is a PJ project!"
I can only imagen that more news will start to dribble in more and more rapidly. This almost sounds like a planted leak, and if it is, what does 2007 mean? Release date, or some other date such as the begining of filming. They (meaning cast, crew, and various other insiders) certainly couldnt have kept filming a total secret up until now, and even if they did, why?...only legal matters are conducted in such a hushed up manner-- anything else is good hype, and certainly would be used to newlines boxoffice advantage.
What does this mean for our Hobbit project? Simple: We now have a deadline. If 2007 is infact the release date for the movie, then it would be late '07...December, which would give them a year and a half to film and do post production work...this is assuming they've already been through the pre-production/ design process. If they started filming the lord of the rings in 1998, and they released it in 2001, that would make this an exeptionally short filming time in comparison. Of course, they shot 3 movies...and this wouldnt be anything on that scope. December 2007 is a perfectly reasonable date...the only question is do I buy this rumor or not. At this time I will chose to. It can do nothing but hasten our progress at this time, and this is needed.
I must also say that we have been making huge strides in our own Hobbit project. Will's been pushing Smaug by leaps and bounds, and I've been doing lots of other effects research. We plan to get some preliminary filming soon.
