Snelling and Fruto traded for Vidro. Forgetting Fruto for just a second... a 24-year-old outfielder making league minimum who hit .250/.360/.427 in 96 AB and made $328,500 last year for a 31-year-old second baseman who hit .289/.348/.395 in 463 AB and is due to make $16 million over the next two years. A great hitting prospect who's entering his prime for a guy whose slugging percentage has steadily decreased 100 points the last five years. If they play him at second, there goes Lopez, but Vidro's passable. And if they play him at DH (which they are actually discussing) he would be well below average for his position. Why not just play Snelling there?
WHAT THE FUCK BAVASI
WHAT THE FUCK LINCOLN
WHAT THE FUCK MARINERS
OH LET'S JUST THROW IN FRUTO AS WELL
In my opinion they just traded away any hope for the future. I'm really having a hard time comprehending being a Mariners fan right now. They only way this makes sense is from a health standpoint. But Snelling finished the year healthy. Why not give him a chance to stay active? Why pay so much more money for less (and eroding) talent?
This really seems reminiscent of 2004, but more malicious. Rather than just spending money on overpaid veterans, they are trading talented young players, maybe even future stars, for overpaid veterans. This is God damn ridiculous. Fuck this team.
