Slashgropers Xmas 2008
Thanks to mr_booboo for hosting, and everybody for contributing to the fantastic meal. Special mention for my money goes to the turkey-cooker dragonfly8 and ravenclaw_harpy for the vegetable cheese balls. I think that was our best Christmas meal yet.
I'll send some photos around to people privately, but here's one of me coveting E's purple steel cap boots. I have my own pair ordered!
I always get a bit sentimental at Christmas, but I really really appreciate you all individually, and also collectively, for providing a space like that to be wildly enthusiastic or silly in. I think that's something a lot of adults don't have, and it's beyond price.
Tangential to that topic, it came to my attention that not everybody knows I'm not a "don't harsh my squee" person. I always want you to harsh my squee, if you have something to say! I have two small reasons and one really big reason for this:
First, in case there's something I'm not taking into account that rightfully should affect my opinion of a show or anything else, I want you to tell me and not leave me embarrassingly floundering around in raptures while the rest of you look on pityingly. That's part of what friends are for, isn't it, to save us from ourselves in times of bad judgment? Go ahead and point out what I'm missing.
Second, I'm not easily harshed. Have you listened to me recently?? You probably don't need to worry about denting my enjoyment.
Thirdly and most importantly, I'm far more interested in you and what you think than I am in maintaining unbroken fannish enthusiasm. If you hate Alan Shore because he's arrogant or loathe the style of medicine shown on House or don't like The Persuaders because they're too old, I want to know this! Please don't deprive me of the opportunity to get to know you better because you're worried about ruining my fun. I'd love to hear why you hate Boston Legal, really!
