I'm off to New Zealand for work tomorrow morning. Not, unfortunately, the all-expenses-paid kind of work trip, but rather the painful pay-for-everything-yourself self-employment kind of trip. I'd been mostly thinking of it as an expensive hassle until I did a search for information on the town I'm going to (Te Aroha, pretty name!) and learned it has hot soda water springs and a mountain to climb. Sounds kind of fun. I have two days to myself at the end and might go see the boiling mud at Rotorua. Another major attraction in the area is apparently glow-worm caves you can raft into, but I'm not sure if a person with a caterpillar phobia belongs in a glow-worm cave. What if one dropped onto me??
Hot springs means I need to take swimming things, and I can't find them anywhere. Bedroom? No. Old suitcase in shed (covered with mouse and rat droppings and redback spiders)? No. Hall closet? No. It's a mystery and I guess it means I haven't been in the water since before moving here in 2003, and probably a long time before that. I finally packed a running top and short running shorts, which will have to do. If I can get myself properly attired, I think I'd better go to the beach when I get back, before I forget how.
