New Year's Eve

Dec 31, 2005 19:56

Having staged a "leaving before the meals arrive" and "returning 30 seconds later to tear up Christmas cheque" scene today, please be advised that the next time I post anything about making an effort to get along with your family, you should all point, sneer and say things about people in glass houses.  It's just not worth the effort with some people, flesh and blood or not.  I wish I could have back the two hours of driving and box of Kleenexes that scene cost me.

...but just after typing that this afternoon, I heard a "Hello!" and it was Sister and Dave, who said they were here to work and apparently bore me no grudges for leaving them in an awkward situation at lunch ("We liked the bit with the cheque!").  Family sometimes good.  I took them at their word and we moved about a hundred bales of old, loose, mouldy hay from the hay shed across the road.

Looking forward to finding out tomorrow who wrote a few of the Yuletide and Secret Santa stories, but I can't help but think that those kind of exchanges need some sort of (preferably self-imposed) minimum quality standard applied.  If you sign up to write in a fandom, surely you should know how to spell the main characters' names?  And at least bother to run a spell-checker?  "Out" only has one "t", and "are" has an "r" in it!

Happy New Year!

family, update
