Pie
I'm going to a Supernatural S7 marathon at redteekal's this afternoon and thought, what could be more appropriate to take to a Supernatural viewing than a pie? (Other than perhaps popcorn and licorice, which ash48 is taking care of.) I'm more of a cookies and cake type and have never made a pie, but I figured it couldn't be completely beyond the bounds of possibility.
I mentioned this to my mother, who comes from a long line of American baking traditions and is an excellent, if reluctant ("It's too hot here to make a good crust") pie maker. Instead of giving me her recipe and a few pointers as I expected, she looked at me like I'd told her I was flying to the moon and said she didn't think I was capable of making a pie. Thanks for the vote of confidence, Mom. Mothers out there, you should teach your kids to cook the things you make so you're not having these discussions when they're 40. I decided to leave making a home-made crust for a cooler day and bought frozen pastry.
