A little bit of background on this story:
1. They're on the set used in Neo Genesis Vol. 26. (Click here to view scans...)
2. I don't know why his girlfriend in on the set, but that's how it worked out in my head. LOL~
3. I started getting ideas for this fanfic after seeing this picture of Nao: click. For some reason, I thought he looked like he was spying on someone. Haha~
4. After writing it, I felt this fanfic could have a theme song. After browsing through my tiny R&B collection, the song Where Did My Baby Go? by John Legend fit the story perfectly. I have added lyrics from that song in bold italics throughout the story. You don't have to listen to this song while you're reading the story though! XD
Blind Neglect

They were having yet another photoshoot taken. It was the 3rd one in less than two weeks. Nao wondered when he would ever have time to relax with a mocha latte and a book. He sighed quietly and looked over at his girlfriend. Lately, she'd been distant from him. As if there was an invisible wall between them that he couldn't quite break down. She was sitting with her legs crossed, looking down at the beverage grasped in her hands, completely submerged in her thoughts.
He'd seen her do this a lot lately. If he inquired about it, she would immediately smile and act as if nothing was wrong. But, as soon as she thought he wasn't watching, she would return to her sullen demeanor. It left him baffled.
I'm calling, but I can't get through...
alice nine's members had just finished their solo photos and were getting ready to take the group ones. Everyone was given a ten minute break while the crew set up cameras and other equipment. Nao went and sat across the table from his girlfriend.
“Drinking coffee without me?! I'm hurt~” he joked a bit.
“I can't help it you're a coffee addict!” she joked back, that false smile plastering itself across her face.
Nao's smile slowly began to fade the more he looked into her eyes. The thought of her hiding something from him was almost unbearable and made him feel unworthy.
“I need to talk to you.” he said, swiftly taking her hand and walking out into an empty side hallway. The sound of flickering fluorescent lights could be heard over their breathing.
“Nao, what are yo-” she started.
“What's been bothering you lately?” he asked.
“Nothing! I'm fine! What do you mean?” she said too quickly. Nao hated this.
“Something is wrong! I'm not blind I can see it! Every time I turn around you're sitting around sulking! If something is bothering you, tell me about it! Don't just sit around keeping it all inside!” He said, talking more loudly than usual because he was worried, not angry.
“I just... I don't want to worry you, Nao.” she said quietly, looking down.
“Well, I'm already worried. Please tell me what you're thinking?” He softened his voice a little.
Just then, a cameraman opened the door leading into the hallway.
“C'mon Nao! Break's over!” he almost shouted, tapping at his watch.
“Just gimme a minute would you!” Nao responded, visibly irritated.
Rolling his eyes, the cameraman slammed the door as he disappeared back into the room. Nao sighed and bent down to look into the woman's downcast eyes.
“Please...” He was practically begging her for an explanation.
“I feel neglected Nao.” she began, her hands twisting together in nervousness.
“I know that you're busy and it's just part of your job to be like you are, but even so... You come home from work and you just eat or sleep. And I know that you can't help it, but I still feel like sometimes you can't see me. We never have much time together and sometimes I wonder if we're even dating anymore.”
She was starting to cry and a tear rolled off her cheek. Nao bit his lip and said nothing. Everything she had said was the truth.
“And I'm just starting to think that if this is how you are and this is how needy I am then maybe we can't be together. Maybe it's not possible. And if that's true then let's just end it now and quit acting like it's really possible for us to be together!” She sniffled and took a shaky breath.
“I love you Nao, and I know you can't help it but...”
Maybe I was wrong,
and I ignored her for too long,
and I didn't even notice when she slipped away...
Nao pulled her into a hug and could feel her body quivering against him.
“I'm sorry. I never realized.” he said quietly, cheek pressed against her head.
“From now on I'll pay more attention to you, but I don't want to break up.”
He held onto her hand as he backed away from her. His other hand grasped her chin and tilted her head up so she was looking at him.
“I still love you.” he said.
A tear slipped out of her left eye as she muttered his name. “Nao...”
He impulsively kissed the corner of her dampened eye before pulling back and almost whispering “please don't cry” before softly kissing her lips.
“I have to go.” he stated.
“I know.” she nodded.
“I will see you tonight.” he said, putting accentuation on the word “see”.
“I know.” she said, smiling a little. This time, it was a genuine smile.
“I love you, Nao.” she said, looking at him this time.
“I love you too.” he said, smiling back at her.
The cameraman had opened the door again.
“Nao-” the chubby man started in.
“Yeah~ I got it! I'm comin'. I had some important business to take care of.” he said, winking at his girlfriend who giggled and shyly covered her mouth with her hand.
Get back soon....
Once the hallway door shut, the woman sighed slightly, content knowing that he still loved her.
Nao was a busy man. Running a band is difficult work and the work frequently left him exhausted. She was beginning to realize that Nao would do anything for the people he cared about, even if it meant stretching himself too thin. And she loved his selfless heart, more than any of his other astounding qualities put together.
I made Nao out to be really sweet guy didn't I? But, for whatever reason, I see him in that kind of light so that's how I wrote about him. I just hope the ending didn't make you wanna vomit. XD
