last weekend, i believe it was, i went to a local coin show. something to do the weekend and it was free.

came home with more shinies for the horde ^.-.^

not to retrace my steps exactly, but to just state what i got.

picked up two $2 US notes. These were from the first booth we stopped at. the guy was almost giving them out. I ended up with two at a price of $2.50.
One a 1928D. the other a 1953. both well worn though.

some more looking around at things, and i come to a booth that specializes in foreign currency and oddities. the seller was a nice lady who shared the same 'shiny shiny shiny!' at foreign notes plus a bit of patterning and history. all her stuff was neatly packaged and in protective covers. even gave us a few for our haul so far!
the first things out of her mouth in regards to something i may like was 'how about a dragon?'. this is not the first time i get handed dragon stuff out of the blue ^.-.^
what she was talking about was a specific series of notes from WWI germany. i suck at names (notgelds after looking it up), but a lot of the town printed their own 'emergency money' and one town had dragons on their note. she found a few in her horde of notes including the dragon. the others were rather plain and uninteresting, but the dragon was interesting enough. apparently a collectors item too! so, i obtained a 5 Mark "Dragonnote" 1904 for $25. in looking it up, seems there were a few with dragons on them!

i also picked up a strange 1pound note from a country i've never heard of. found it in her stash. she even had to consult a book to find out who they were. it was interesting that it was a tiny secessionist state in africa that lasted like 3 years. so, i grabbed a Republic of Biafra 1 Pound note for $1.50
to round things off, a random pretty 200 shilling Uganda 1991 note for $1.50.

the next booth had foreign currency as well, but also coinage for cheap.. i like those giant buckets you can dig around in ^.-.^. grabbed 15 for a low price of a couple bucks if i remember right. the other booths were like 25c for 1 coin o.-.o

so, lets see if i can remember what they are:
Bahamas 1972 1 cent
Norway 1975 5 ore
France 1990 10 franc
Bahamas 2009 1 cent
Singapore 1980 1 cent
Belgium 1986 1 franc
Denmark 1998 25 ore
Australia 1973 1 cent
Norway 1973 10 ore
Cayman Islands 1999 5 cents
South Africa 2009 5 cents
Cayman Islands 1990 1 cent
France 1976 1 centime
Trinidad and Tobago 2007 1 cent
Netherlands 1987 25 cent

its nice that most of mine are better condition than what i linked :p

my father picked up a couple of silver certificates for about nothing. but the biggest find maybe was the 1943S steel penny he found for $8. last booth in the place. that coin is the last penny he has been looking for in his collection. there were only two in the whole show that we saw. the other was ~$130! both were in sealed collecting cases too.
and seeing the link i found, it would be that the 1943S isnt all that valuable? confusing!

outside of that.. last night i bought a few items to upgrade my computer and just finally have some things ive been planning to do. one of the more important things i now need to do is figure out why my credit card failed approval.

so,, after lots of mulling over and reading professional reviews and other reviews and comparisons and looking at prices... i went from looking at a dual SLI of GTX 650Ti boosts to a single evga gtx 760 ftw 4GB card. basically anything would be better than my current evga gtx 470 sc! but the 760 costs less than the dual card setup and would potentially be better in the long run (pick up a second for sli later for example, plus better cooler). i would have to get a new sound card for my system to have sli anyway. current is pci and i have only 1 pci slot in the wrong place. the best sound card for the price would have been another $60! my onboard is probably not the best. the lack of front panel support on it is the killer to me.

the other items is a crap usb floppy drive for my old floppy based games i still want to play. a internal card reader for my parent's pc. and a wireless bridge to spread the wifi around to my room and ps3.

anyway, now off to finish some work at the lake!
