OCTAL I GOT YOUR GIFT AND omg really you didn't have to ;___; i really can't believe you'd go through all the trouble to send me something, you are too kind and generous for this world. I really mean it, I wish I was better at expressing it but your thoughtfulness consistently blows me away. I wish I could be half as good a friend as you are. I'm especially really grateful for the bracelet ;_; I WILL WEAR IT FOREVER
It's hard to say if I'm feeling any better lately since I keep getting hit with these massive moodswings with no warning, so it's hard for me to really judge. Fine for an hour and then suddenly fighting back tears and then suddenly they're gone, what is this. I did have a nightmare last night that woke me up but it was fairly quietly without any of the sleep paralysis, so that's good at least? I wish I could say things have gotten better in regards to what I've been worried about but they haven't really. It's still going to be rough for a while. Hopefully in the end things will be okay. As it is sometimes these moments of intense fear sometimes overwhelm me out of nowhere, it's not super conducive to getting anything done.
Yesterday's poll is interesting, mostly because I forgot that you can't vote in an LJ poll without an LJ account, and so few people have them now. I have a tag for polls and it makes me nostalgic seeing how many people had LJs back in the day. EVERYONE IS GONE NOW, SOB
Anyway, I've been drawing little neko atsume cats lately which is weirdly soothing and addictive. Also a few other things, let's round them up!

at the time when i was drawing it i was like this WHAT reaction face for apollo is dumb, I'll fix it later, but then when I looked at it again it kept making me laugh, so I kept it, haha
it is greatly satisfying to see people like "i ship this now" in response to these doofy comics. IN MY EXPERIENCE, DOOFY COMICS CAN GO A LONG WAY
they are FAR more effective than telling people they're stupid or bad people if they don't ship your ship, tumblr

I'm not sure where this idea came from but it suddenly struck me and then BAM, NEKO ATSUME LADIES
The Neko Atsume style is kind of interesting, haha. The cat heads are ovals, not circles, and the ears are small and not quite on the edges, centered instead sort of over the eyes. And the mouth and nose are very close on the horizontal plane to the eyes IT'S JUST WEIRD TO TRY AND DISSECT SOMETHING LIKE THIS
Neko Atsume cats don't normally have angry eyebrows but I couldn't help it, it gives Hunter a sort of determined look, haha. The cats always have a :3 face with a few rare exceptions, mostly Prince-san the persian who has the same kind of :< face that Smoker has here |D That's why Charger has a :3 face as opposed to her normal :| face, but I think it's cute anyway, haha.
Their markings are based on cats in the game, I went and looked up a bunch of them and tried to find the marking set that seemed to fit them best. I waffled a bit about how to do hair, then decided that since no Neko Atsume cat has hair (the closest is Cafe-san in the latest update, but it's pretty slight) then these kitties wouldn't have hair either! So instead their markings sort of approximate it. Except for Jockey and her braid, but it could be clipped onto the back of her head for all we know, haha. Smoker and Charger have tiny bits hinting at it sort of like Cafe-san. I SURE PUT A LOT OF THOUGHT INTO THIS
Then the floodgates were opened and I couldn't stop, haha. Matt is obviously patterned after Shoe, and then I decided on the sort of Siamese point for Juan for no real reason.
As mentioned Neko Atsume cats always have a :3 face which hugely amuses me, thus why they're all mad at each other here but still going :3 regardless.
Then someone was like "katt engarde and juan purrida" and i was like YES CAT PUNS NOW WE'RE TALKING

Another feature of Neko Atsume is the x butts you see whenever the cats turn around and it felt odd not to have it for such a scene, although it did give rise to one person going WHAT HAPPENED TO MATT'S PANTS WHY DID HE TAKE THEM OFF which I find hilarious for some reason

I was going to make Kristoph grey, then thought no, he and Klavier should be the same color. But then I thought, I only made Klavier orange as a joke about his ridiculous spray tan. BUT IT'S TOO LATE, I'VE COMMITTED so Kristoph is also orange. In the process I found out that Kristoph's suit isn't actually blue in his sprites, it's more purple. :O In fact, a perfect shade of purple that would've fit between Byrne and Klavier in the rainbow. UGH, MISSED OPPORTUNITIES. Oh well.
For some reason the kind of calico markings appealed to me for Apollo, but I think calicos can only be female? OH WELL, WHO CARES.
It's weird to remember that Apollo and Kristoph were on pretty good terms for a while until the first case in AJ, haha. It may look like Apollo is mad that Kristoph is touching him but what I intended was more like Apollo is RARING TO GO CLAWS OF STEEL and Kristoph is like calm down now
I waffled for a while on Max, since I knew he'd be white (since his SKIN IS WHITE IN HIS SPRITES) but pink is not a cat color. So I tried other shades of orange or red in Neko Atsume, but it just didn't look right if Max didn't have pink hair. SO I HAD TO DELVE OUTSIDE REALISTIC CAT COLORS AND DO PINK
Then Father's Day was coming up and I usually color an LET strip for that, but then I thought, I could draw some fat cats to it instead! but I wasn't sure so I asked Jaz and she voted neko atsume cats AND SO IT WAS
I don't think these three are a Neko Atsume color, I think they may just be Big Boss's hair color in general, but whatever. Solidus and BB have the same markings (since they both had beards you see), haha. For a second I automatically started doing Solidus like his LET counterpart then thought no, he has to be wearing his suit and have the eyepatch properly.
It's a little hard to tell but Liquid has a light patch on his stomach and chest, they may all have that. Liquid's hair markings may look a little TOO much like hair... still trying to find a midpoint between markings that look like markings and good enough approximations for hair. OH WELL.
I captioned this "world's worst cat dad" and I'm hugely amused by people going BIG BOSS WASN'T THAT BAD A DAD because he was. Big Boss was the worst dad. Like I don't care how you spin it, he actively tried to murder Snake at least twice, and that's not even counting how much he messed up Liquid for apparently no reason whatsoever.
Sidenote: It's getting hard to avoid MGS5 spoilers aaaagh
Then all of a sudden last night I thought about Silent Hill and was like SILENT HILL CATS, YES
this is becoming an addiction as you can tell
Anyway protagonists and Dahlia, because Dahlia is the best. I immediately patterned her after the cat with two odd eyes in Neko Atsume cause I remembered in the CD art she has two colored eyes, but apparently looking into it, her eyes are actually just blue and the two color effect was the red lighting. WELL, WHO CARES, DAHLIA CAT HAS DIFFERENT EYES
James is facing away from everyone because that's a pose cats do constantly in neko atsume and also he is a butt and that is all he deserves (except death)
In this one I finally made a decision and just cut off the clothes at the torso, haha. Mostly for the butt thing with James but I think from now on most of the cats won't have pants, probably. Heather is a bit hard to make out since she isn't sitting up, but eh. Henry's such a scruffy looking cat, haha. I actually intended to have the other protags in here like Travis and Murphy but ran out of room.
I went and looked up Henry and he wears two white shirts. He has a button down white shirt over another white shirt. Henry you're so boring. That's probably the best summary of him that exists - Henry wears two white shirts.
Still running into the balance of hair/markings. Harry and James were easy though since their hair is just like a solid block. Gotta find a midground. I think the ladycats were the best at that, I'll have to try and tone it down in the future and see.
I should color some comics or something but I'm probably going to end up drawing more fat marshmallow cats, send help.
