~Fun with Mother 3 - What might have been

So hey, I said we weren't quite done yet, and here we are! Mother 3 spent a long time in development and as such a lot of weird stuff was left in the coding. Some of it hints at some really fascinating possibilities for endings and battles and characters and the like. Gah those unused sprites, freak me right the hell out every time I see them. Jesus Itoi, when you say you toned things down for the end of Mother 3, and then we see things like this...Itoi not holding anything back would be soul-destroying.

Itoi supposedly mentioned that he originally intended the final battle to be a wordless nightmare but changed his mind when it was too upsetting

After watching that video I can safely say that I am upset.

I find the slideshow to be telling. It looks like the kind of snapshots used in the credits, but a couple of them depict things that only could have happened after the world was reborn. The Osohe Ghost Party has Duster in the DCMC, for example, and another shows Salsa with Saruko. Definitely the most interesting one is the former Pigmask working together with the Claymen in the fields--not planting, but replanting. Rebuilding. Together with the flashback "photos", it really seems like this was intended as a possible alternate credit roll, and that's a beautiful possibility to me ( ... )

Sweet Celestia, Zar! That battle scene! I agree with the other comments, that battle scene is really upsetting. I mean, if that's Lucas's mental state, and it's upsetting to us, imagine all the emotions and fear and adrenalin coursing through him while we sit here on our beds! Gosh darn you, Zar, kick me in the heart in the worst ways possible!
