~Fun with Star Control 2 - The Eternal Doctrine

Nov 11, 2006 01:56

And so we return to Star Control 2 for the final time, I think. I feel weird calling this "fun with" since this isn't going to be fun, but I'd hate to break screencap adventure tradition.

Anyway, curious_velvet mentioned that she heard that if you let the Kohr-Ah destroy a race, you can then go to their homeplanet and scan it. This could be really helpful in ( Read more... )

I can't even begin to explain how much I adore and love this game and it changed my life and aaaaaaaaaaa
Basically a kind of strategy/rpg/action kind of sci-fi thing, very freeform, lots of alien races, fun stuff, HOT ALIEN SEX i mean. You should totally play it oh man.
Watching everyone die is terribly upsetting. D:

Uh, let's see...I don't think I ever packaged Edgar up himself, but I do have his house with Scri and Johnny somewhere. They aren't as fabulously rich at this point as they would eventually get.
I think this should be it

Uh, I dunno. :O I can't think of anything offhand.

Heh, they're from an old game called Magical Drop 3. The Emperor and the Hierophant. It was on the NeoGeo. You should look it up!

Holy crap that was awful. D:

It's a pity that you can't deal enough damage to the Kohr-Ah to weaken them so that the Kzer-Za could win, I'd like to see what the Kzer-Za would do.

Well, you CAN get the Utwig and Supox to attack the Kohr-Ah and that delays them for a year to 2160, but you can never stop them. I think popular theory has it that the Ur-Quan fleet was badly crippled when the Shofixti blew up their sun and they never recovered from that loss, giving the Kohr-Ah the advantage they needed. Which is kind of sadly ironic, in a way.

Haha, yeah. The Shofixti accidentally doomed us all.

Hmm, damn you. Now you've gone and got me wanting to play SC2 again. Even though it's old, it's so much fun. And it has in ZEX.

SOB D:

I guess the cities in the water kind of validate my "amphibious" theory about the VUX. Especially since it looks like there are more cities in the water than not.

...I don't know, I wouldn't have expected anything particular about the Orz "homeworld" since they come from that other dimension. I would have figured they'd just stay in that area(at least at first... I bet they'd expand outward eventually) since it was near the rift.

The Kzer-Za aren't evil, they're just paranoid in a way but dealing with the universe the way they know how. In a way they DID protect everyone from the Kohr-Ah, and they tried to stop them.
*nod* I remember when you hear about their history from the Melnorme. It's just... wow, it all makes sense in a horrible way, and they are protecting everyone else from the Kzer-Za, they're just also ruled by their fear ( ... )

Yeah, it SEEMS like there are more cities in water than otherswise. It's too bad we can't get a more detailed look. I don't know why I didn't get some cities for the other races...darn it. I should've done that.

The Ur-Quan's history is just so hideously tragic. They suffered so much and in a way I don't blame them for kind of going nuts. I mean, just thinking about having an excruciator in your brain makes me freak out. That would drive ME crazy that's for sure. It's really tragic, what happened, and it was all by accident in a way, a Scout landing on the wrong planet.
I think they just keep going once they finish with one area. The Kohr-Ah mention destroying thousands of races, so they must get around.

I'm kind of surprised at that too, but that's better in a way. I guess the Captain and his crew at that point see no point in continuing their war because they have nothing to fight for. Everyone is wiped out. Also they don't have resources for the ship or fuel...

God, I know. *shudder* And for YEARS.
Yeah, it didn't really have to happen at all... I mean, if the Taalo had found them first, they wouldn't have been able to get a hold at all.

*nod* It would be completely pointless. I mean, if you had a ton of fuel maybe you could make it to the next galaxy and warn them, but that's outside the scope of the game, anyway.

I can't even imagine. D: It would be horrible. Aaaagh.
Yeah, it was all just a terrible stroke of luck that doomed that section of the galaxy and several races right off the bat. (The Yuli, the Yuptar...the Drall too I think...? It's been a while since I brushed up on my Milieu races)

Yeah, it's just kind of over at that point. Sob.

Ya know, assuming Earth was the last place on their "cleanse" list which it sounds like, they don't actually kill off all the races since they never went after the Slylandro or any of the slave worlded planets except Earth, so technically the Chmmr would have woken up normally in 20 years and be able to wake up the Syreen, the Spathi, the Earthlings in Vela, the Shofixti if they set up their homeworld in Delta Gorno again, etc.

Course I have to wonder if any of the races could have escaped if "the words" were spoken to them.

We don't know if it was the last world they hit or just one of the last ones, cause after they got rid of Starbase they could just go and clean up everyone else. I didn't check Vela or anything, but even if I did I couldn't make sure that they were alive since they'd be slaveshielded and I couldn't land. I'm assuming in general that they would have just continued killing forever, moving on and out. The Chmmr might arise if the Kohr-Ah overlooked them, but who would they arise to save? They'd be the only ones left.

I don't know if any races know The Words that survive...the Pkunk knew them and the Melnorme knew them, I think, but they both get wiped out or vanish respectively. Hmm.

ananonymousfox November 12 2006, 07:58:34 UTC
Well for the races surviving I was going based on the fact the Kohr-Ah stated in the end sequence that they had already destroyed all races and now destroyed the Earth's Star Base. Course I suppose it doesn't even say that they destroyed Earth so it's possible they can't break through the slave shields and I'm pretty sure the Kzer-Za won't give them the key to break it. As for the Slylandro, they might not even remember it's there.

I find it amusing how so many of the other races seem to be on a planet with less gravity, but almost 2x+ times our atmospheric pressure. Now I have to wonder if leaving the probes alone (not getting the slylandro to recall them) would help or hurt the amount of time before the Kohr-Ah win.

Hmm, that's true. I didn't check around after the Yehat were killed, or the Syreen or planets they passed by on their way to others, so it's possible they might have gotten away, but it seems odd that the Kohr-Ah would be willing to leave a species slaveshielded alone. I'm not sure if they can break the shield or not, but if they did they would without a doubt. Hmm. One of those questions with no answer really.

Heh, that would be an odd tradeoff. I don't think the Probes affect anything if you get rid of them or not, except make it easier to travel in space.
