~Fun with King's Quest I - The Magic Shield

I apparently have brain damage or something because I'm working on another flash video. This one, however, is much shorter and has no furries and is about a billion times better than my other two already. I should have it done pretty soon because I've hit my fanatical THIS IS THE ONLY THING I WANT TO WORK ON ARRRRGH phase. GOOD TIMES ( Read more... )

Man, I'm glad I didn't have to figure out all that by myself. I swear, every time the game said "Please try something else, Sir Graham" it rolled its eyes. --Chiadro

Hahaha, that message, and any variant thereof in old Sierra games (ranging from "please try something else, effendi" from QFG2 to "excellent guess, kreskin. wrong! but excellent." from SQ6) HAUNT ME TO THIS DAY. There's nothing like being in a lifethreatening situation and then having that horrible missage come up.

In place of actual content, the early games relied on what we'll call stump time, that fragile line between frustatingly trying to figure out a problem or taking the disk out and setting it on fire. Fun, fun times :)

Haha, yeah. I've noticed that! As games went on, there WAS an increase in content, but the puzzle-content ratio in old Sierra games is pretty telling. Especially when you have time gobblers liek gambling mini games (LSL and SQ1, I'm looking at you).

The Hell if I know. I just like pointing out flaws, not helping correct them. XD

Hn... Did you get the Golden Egg? I can't remember that far back.

No, I got the golden egg right off so that wasn't it. I think I got penalized for not using the sling on the giant, but I dunno.

Yes the KQ2 remake was wonderful. I can't think of an aspect they didn't embelish on, and I believe there's even an insert song in it somewhere. Go figure.

My first exposure to King's Quest was actually on the NES because they apparently remade V for it, and it was insane fun. Cedric is some kind of silly owl GOD. Although I wondered where the other four games were, and spent a majority of my childhood not realizing that they were on the PC. Alas. I believe everything was dummed down for that one but it was one of my favorite installments and playing it on the PC was like wow.

Hahaha, I remember the NES port of KQV. To me, that just ramped up the difficult because the puzzles became insanely hard when you have to use a d-pad to control rather than a mouse. I dunno if I ever got past the boot throwing part on the NES version. Ah man. Memories.

The KQ2 remake is great. That one seriously NEEDED fleshing out.

The labryth was HATE no matter what system you put it on. The last area of the game was aggravating. Maybe it was just me or they had some sort of random 'you die hahaha' table going on. The boot... yes. It helps to save RIGHT when you hear the 'zomg stuff!' noise and then you can restore and try repeatedly. Rat Matrons = Peak of Awesome. ...of course that port really isn't worth playing except for maybe the sake of novelty.

And yes. They went so far as throwing a few easter eggs in here and there, too, although I can't so much as remember any...

More prattling on the LJ! :D

Oh GOD that horrible maze in KQ5. I can't do that without a map and sometimes even WITH a map it's horrible. Ugh. Altho I did love Dink.
Oh man, Mannannan's castle. Talk about a heart attack every room. That horrible guard could jump you ANYtime almost EVERYwhere and arrrrrghhhh.
