I know exactly what you mean about the job too. There are some 'carers' who treat the ressies like they're lumps of meant. No dignity or respect, totally task focused. They're super fast, but they don't make the ressies feel cared for and safe.
It really is the challenge of the job, to get through the workload in a timely manner, while respecting and not rushing the clients who are old and slow and often have trouble understanding what's going on.
I value the ressie over the task, but I know that I'll speed up as I get more practice, so I'm not worried about that even though some (a very few) people do snark about the slow newbie. Mostly though, the other staff are compassionate, caring people and very understanding that it takes time to get up to speed when you're new. And I've had several staff (including RNs) tell me that I'm good with the ressies, they like my approach and so on, so it's all going well so far.
And I get some funny stories too! The ressies really are so much fun! :)
Anyway, thank you. I may very well ask you for advice at some point!
