BBM PICTURE PERFECT chapter 8

Apr 13, 2008 21:36

Jack opened his eyes slowly, groaning a little from just wakening.

After his eyes had cleared, he had to take a minute to register that he was at Ennis’ apartment.

He sleepily raised his hand to his face and rubbed his eyes.

“En?” Jack said.

“Ennis, you here?” Jack said, propping himself up a little.

There was no reply. Jack looked around a little and noticed a note on the pillow next to him.

He picked it up and began to read.

The note read:

“I’m at work until around 2am, make yourself at home.  I have beer in the fridge and some food but not much I left my wallet on the counter top, if you need anything from the store.

See you soon Jack.

Love Ennis”

Jack couldn’t help smiling as he read it out, reading the scrawled writing, noticing where Ennis had written “See you soon” before he had written Jack, there was a word scribbled out, that when Jack looked hard enough he could make out as "darlin’".

Jack clambered out of the bed and walked to the bathroom to splash some water on his face, to help wake him up.

He then thought he better get dressed before he did anything else, it was pretty cold walking around stark naked.

His clothes were in a heap on the floor and he picked them up and slipped his shirt on, leaving the buttons undone.

“I don’t really want to put the same boxer shorts on,” he thought.

Walking over to Ennis’ chest of drawers, he opened them one by one looking for the underwear drawer.

He found it quick enough and began rummaging through until he found a pair of jersey shorts which he slipped, on not even remotely caring that they had been worn by someone else. The thought that Ennis had worn them actually made Jack slightly aroused.

Jack opened the curtain a little and looked across the empty parking lot over to the bar. He then decided to go see Ennis.  He walked over to the bed while buttoning his shirt up then slipped his jeans and shoes on before grabbing the key Ennis had left for him, and exiting the room.

He stepped out into the chill wind, sprinting across the parking lot to avoid the cold as much as he could. He swung the door open and stepped into the bar.  It was pretty quiet, just a young couple in the corner and a group of old aged guys around a large table at the far side of the room, playing cards and drinking beer.

Ennis looked up from cleaning the bar and smiled as he saw Jack approach.

“Whut you doing here?” Ennis asked, smiling, pleasantly surprised.

“Well, I would have been bored sitting waiting for you back at the room,” Jack replied, sitting on the bar stool opposite and leaned onto the bar a little with his arms.

“It been this quiet all night?” Jack asked.

“No…before it was quieter,” Ennis replied, smiling.

“That a good thing or a bad thing?” Jack enquired.

“Bit of both really.  I get bored as hell, but I get out of doing more work this way,” Ennis said, showing a little half smile as he started to wipe the bar.

Jack's head began to bob and his eyes flicker.

“You still tired?” Ennis asked, looking at Jack.

“Exhausted is more of an accurate word,” Jack replied.

“I feel a little ill actually, I got a stinking headache and feel drained,” he added.

“Then what you doing here then?” Ennis asked in a concerned tone, staring into Jack's eyes.

“You ought to go back and get more sleep, least some rest.  Go put the TV on or something. I think if it stays this quiet, Mike will let me leave an hour or two early,” Ennis said, encouraging Jack to go back to the apartment.

“I'll go back but only if you can promise me that if I’m asleep when you get back, that you will wake me up,” Jack said, looking up at Ennis.

“Deal,” Ennis agreed.  “Now you go get some rest and I'll be home soon.” He smiled at Jack.

The pair said their goodbyes and Jack left to headd back to the apartment.

Jack awoke to the sound of Ennis’ key turning in the door.  He looked up, rubbing his eyes groggily.

“Jack, you awake?” Ennis shouted whilst walking through the door.

“Sure am,” Jack smiled, waving at Ennis who was pulling his shoes off.

“You feeling any better?” Ennis asked, walking over to him.

“I’m fine,” Jack said, smiling, trying to hide the discomfort his headache was giving him.

“You look worse,” Ennis said, sitting down next to Jack and placing the back of his hand against Jack's forehead.

“You have a fever,” he said, looking worried.

“I’ll go make you some soup,” he said, kissing Jack's forehead before standing up.

“Ennis, I’m fine, really, just come lie down.  It's 1am, you must be tired,” Jack said, trying to persuade Ennis to get some rest.

“It wont take long to make some soup, I can rest once I’ve made it,” Ennis said, his face showing resolve.

“Well, you know,… I don’t even really like soup.”

“I got tinned spaghetti, if you want,” Ennis asked, opening the cupboard.

“No, Ennis it's fine, I’m not hungry,” Jack expelled tiresomely.

“You should really have something,” Ennis said, looking a little concerned.

“Jesus Ennis, I don’t want nuthin,’” Jack spat out sharply, a guilty look spreading across his face at what he had said.

“Okay,” Ennis replied, biting his lip, his eyes twitching. It was obvious to Jack that his words had hurt Ennis.

Ennis sat down on a stool and picked up a spoon that had been left on the counter.  He twirled it between his thumbs, watching it glimmer in the light, trying to occupy himself so he didn’t cry.

“Jus’ trying to help,” he said in a low tone, his voice breaking slightly.

“I know you were, baby… I’m sorry, I was out of line,” Jack admitted, swinging his legs round and standing up off the bed.

“My head is killin’ me and I jus’ snapped,” he added, watching Ennis swizzle the spoon between his fingers.

“I understand,” Ennis said, looking up at Jack, his trembling lip, his eyes twitching and watery.

Jack began to walk towards Ennis until he was right next to him.

“Really Ennis, you did nothing wrong,” Jack said, staring into Ennis' chocolate eyes, his own blue eyes full of grief.

“I’m sor-” Jack began before clasping his forehead in his hand and beginning to sway, his free hand clasping on to the counter top for balance.

“Jack?” Ennis asked, standing up pulling Jack close to him to stabilise him. Ennis’ look of hurt had quickly shifted to a look of worried panic.

“You okay Jack…Jack?” Ennis asked quickly holding him tightly.

“Jus’ a dizzy spell,” Jack groaned quietly.

“C’mon, you need to lie down,” Ennis gasped, his voice relieved that it was only a dizzy spell but still shaky from the panic and worry.

“I am really sorry for getting angry, I had no right to,” Jack apologised as Ennis slowly lead Jack to the bed, Jack's arm around Ennis' shoulder for support.

“It's okay, never mind that,” Ennis said, helping Jack to sit down on the bed.

“You sure you don’t need anything?” Ennis asked softly, smoothly caressing Jack's face with his hand.

“I’m sure,” Jack smiled, appreciatively.

“Thanks En,” Jack added.

Jack then clambered under the sheets and sat up waiting for Ennis to join him.

Ennis sat at the end of the bed by Jack's feet and pulled his shoes and socks off, throwing the socks into a laundry basket and sliding the shoes under the bed.

He then stood up and undone the zipper on his trousers before he started to undo the buttons on his shirt.

“Hell Ennis, I didn’t know I was gonna get a strip tease,” Jack said, his face brightening a little.

Ennis looked at Jack and laughed a little.

“Well I don’t really think you're the one to talk, after parading round here in underwear that looks oddly similar to mine,” Ennis said winking.

“You could always take them off me,” Jack smiled mischievously.

“I'd love to, but I think you need rest now,” Ennis said.

“You're probably right,” Jack sighed.

“But when you feel better,” Ennis said, winking at Jack.

Jack smiled and then continued to watch as Ennis pulled his arms out of his shirt and then stepped out of his pants without using his hands.

He then dropped his shirt on the floor next to his trousers and clambered into bed, sliding himself under the green sheets next to Jack, moving closer in and kissing Jack's ear.

“You gonna be okay?” Ennis asked, stroking Jack's hair.

Jack nodded his yes, and smiled, leaning towards Ennis for a soft kiss.

Jack and Ennis lay on their sides staring at each other, no words needed to express their love for each other.

After a while, Jack turned around and moved closer into Ennis, who wrapped his arms around Jack.

Ennis began to stroke and inhale the scent of Jack's hair.

“Promise me it will be like this always,” Jack said sleepily.

“I promise li'l darlin’” Ennis whispered in Jack's ear, biting his lip when he remembered Jack didn’t like being called darlin’.

“Sorry about the darlin’ thing,” Ennis said, caressing Jack's face softly.

“I don’t mind, it's growing on me,” Jack said contently, a sleepy smile stretching across his face.

Ennis then ruffled Jack's hair and began to hum as he stroked Jack's hair until Jack was asleep.  Ennis then nuzzled his head into Jack's side and fell asleep almost instantly.
