Apart from the visits to the doctor, I was cooped up at home for three weeks. Have I mentioned that I have 60 days of MC? Not that I need it, seeing as how I'm on vacation.
So, I've had an incredible amount of time for myself. The pain's a bitch, not to mention my lack of mobility, but I still managed to get a lot of (useless) stuff done. Got caught up on Arakawa Under the Bridge (it's awesome crack, by the way), read all 5 books of Susan Cooper's The Dark is Rising series, the first two books in the Mistborn trilogy, re-read Fuyumi Ono's latest Twelve Kingdoms English release (if you're a fantasy fan and haven't read/watched the anime version of this, do it now), wasted more hours of my life on TvTropes, wrote less than I really should have, watched a ridiculous number of British stand-up comedy performances and Mock the Week episodes...it's been a solitary homebody's dream.
Except I must not be as much of a solitary homebody as I thought, because I was coming really close to being driven out of my effing mind. I missed the sun. I missed wandering around libraries and bookstores and music stores. I missed eating out. I missed shopping. And - what do you know - I missed people. Mostly this one person...but they are other people I do enjoy hanging out with. A few of them - Iza, Zul, and Yusri - came over to visit, but it's not quite the same.
Today, though, courageously leaving my crutch behind, I strapped on my leg brace, braved public transport and took small, clumsy, steps back into the outside world. AND IT WAS BEAUTIFUL.
Okay, it was really just the same old same old. But it felt good to be out, even for just a few hours. Had breakfast with Na'im, poked around the library while he patiently tagged along, then followed as he went to check out some running shoes.
At one point I really was tempted to run - well, hobble - into the sun yelling "FREEDOM!!!"
Was pretty tired though, by the time I got back home. Still getting used to walking with the brace - it's really heavy, and coupled with the fact that my leg muscles have atrophied...Every time I lifted my right leg to take a step forward I'd end up kinda stumbling a little to the right due to the weight of the brace. Tried to explain this to Na'im after nearly bumping into him a few times and he responded with "Oh, I thought it was because of my magnetism." Whatever you say, sweetie.
