Sometimes, Sea Hawk gets the urge to give Adora diamonds. Not because he thinks she needs them, because he knows she doesn’t. Not because he wants to shower her with gifts-he does, but that’s not a good enough reason to give the leader of the Rebellion stolen jewelry. Not even because she’d look lovely in the moonlight with that particularly sparkly necklace glinting at her throat, although for the record? She really, really would.
But Hawk wants to give Adora the best, the brightest, the most beautiful gems he can find, because she deserves it. Adora is the one who gave him back his life, his purpose and his self-respect when he had so foolishly thrown them away. Adora is his North Star, bright and steadfast even in a night of his own making. She shines so brilliantly that Hawk wonders how the Horde in their dark, retched Fright Zone can keep from being blinded.
Adora is the woman Sea Hawk loves, and he wants to give her more than just food and supplies for the Rebellion, even though he’s giving this straight and narrow thing (or some approximation thereof) a try. It’s just that sometimes-only sometimes-he sees a diamond and he thinks of Adora, his most beloved jewel.
