Disclaimer PostSummary: Adora may be a princess, but she certainly doesn't feel like one.
Notes: Yes, finally an Adora-POV fic. I don't know how many of these I'll have, given the wealth of fantastic side characters in this series.
The dress was blue, like her eyes-the first time in a very long time that Adora could remember wearing any other color than red, white or gold. Its full skirt (completely impractical for riding or fighting) swished gently around her legs. The trailing sleeves meant that she was doing precisely nothing with a sword; they’d only get hopelessly tangled. Adora was also certainly not doing any running or jumping in the small, soft, intricately embroidered slip-ons she was currently wearing as shoes. Then there was the jewelry-silver and delicate and set with many tiny, sky-blue stones-who was Adora to be wearing that?
Adora was a warrior, a freedom fighter, an unwitting betrayer searching for redemption. She was not girlish. She was not a princess in anything but blood. She was not pretty. The last place she belonged was in the midst of all this finery and-
“Oh, Adora. You are so beautiful, my daughter.”
Adora turned to see her mother standing in the doorway. Queen Marlena was wearing the very same look she’d worn in the throne room when they’d first met. You are my beloved daughter, this look said, and there is nothing I would rather see now than you.
Adora smiled softly, and clasped her hands in front of her like a princess, rather than behind her like a soldier.
“Thank you, Mother.”
