I went insect watching today after work, and I took some pictures!

There is a lot of goldenrod blooming now, and the bees are bring in lots of pollen and some nectar. I like this one since it's easy to see the pollen baskets.  :)( Busy Bees! )

This time I took pictures of honey bees on blackberry flowers.  Even though most berries aren't entirely dependent on insect pollination, having a polinator increases fruit yields by at least 20%.

The theme for this year's Bee Culture calendar photo contest is "Bees on Flowers".   I decided to try taking more bees on flowers pictures, since I don't have very many (and maybe eventually I'll get a couple that are good enough to submit to a photo contest).  I also kind of want to do a pollination themed Earth Day project for DA...but that will ( Read more... )
