i dont know why this is surprising or depressing me, i;ve had the past 4 years off so I dont have much room to complain, but it is still staring me in the face, daring me to drive upon it.
I;m really not excited about driving. (stupid Winter driving)
Honestly, I;m not excited about snow in general.
Yes, I am back in the Midwest, and Yes, I should expect it, and Yes, I did grow up with it, but No, i;'m not excited about it.
I;m also terrified about the idea of the power going out.
I;m actually crazy paranoid about that.
Again, I dont know why exactly, as I spent the first 28 or 29 years of my life in snow country, and I wasnt gone for all that long, but now that I'm back, I seem to have it in my head that I'll need a full pantry or plenty of shot gun shells so I can kill things from my back porch to get me through the lean times.
The other thing i have utterly convinced myself that I need is the BIG BUDDY indoor propane emergency heater.
It's the size of a bread box, and hooks up to 2 small (1 lb) propane tanks. Enough to run for 12 hours in a pinch. Power goes out, Mateo goes downstairs and sets up the BIG BUDDY and by morning, we're not frozen to death. Overkill, I realize. I made it a long time without having one of these, and so far as I can tell, I survived the experience. Still, power goes out I wanna have options.
These are the same small propane tanks I would be able to use in my little Coleman Grill so I could have the occasional hot meal (and somewhere to cook the meat I collect from the back porch hunting trips) when there is no power.
I'm also looking at a battery back up that hooks up to the car battery,
(and serves as an emergency jump starter. (stupid winter))
While I;m at it, i might as well look into a propane powered hot plate
stock up on bottled water and batteries,
buy stock in Hot Hands
decide now what furniture I can sacrifice for firewood (or crude spears if it comes to that)
and move back to the desert.
There is no place for me here on Hoth. (stupid TaunTaun)
