So, K and I decided to live it up and go downtown, maybe have some dinner and brave it to watch the fireworks (at a safe distance, as I am very scared of them). I ignorantly assumed that most people would be down at the waterfront. I was wrong. In our 3rd year living here, we have not yet participated in the 4th festivities of Burlington. Well, there were lots o' people everywhere. There were long waits at pretty much all the restaurants. I decided that I needed a drink, so we wanted to go to Miguel's to get some yummy sangria. There was a half hour wait, which wasn't too horrible, so that was that. It was quite hot and humid outside and we were trying to seek shelter in some air conditioning. Most of the business were closed already, except for Urban Outfitters (my new hero). We perused the store for a while and I even bought a cute pitcher (to make my own yummy sangria) for only $2.65! I love their clearance section- I refuse to pay full price for anything there. It was then time to go get our booze and grub....
We arrived at 7:15, the place was packed and it didn't seem like there were enough waitstaff for all the tables. Our waitress gave us water, disappeared for a time, and brought us chips and salsa (evil), and disappeared again for a long time. Well, she didn't really disappear, she was running around like a mad woman trying to wait on all her tables. I felt bad for her, but she had a good attitude about it. Some more time passed and we finally got our drinks- so yummy... They were so busy, they ran out of silverware and napkins, and were frantically washing them in the back. It's probably about a half hour later, and she takes or order. We decided to share and get a veggie quesadilla, but with no cheese, add some onions insead. Okay, time still passing, and the waitress snuck me a free sangria- very nice, but she informs us that they cannot add onions to the quesadilla (?), but we don't care, we are tired and hungry... Well, it is now 9, that is about 2 hours since we had arrived. Our waitress seems to be avoiding us, and the once chipper K is now pissed off. We can't seem to grab her when she gets close to us. Finally, she comes over, sits down, and explains that they never made our food, because they can't make said quesadilla without the cheese(which is bs, because we were there last week, and had a different quesadilla w/out the cheese) Is not putting cheese on something that difficult/strange? She doesn't understand either, and is clearly mad at the chef because he never told her that he wasn't making our food! She says that we are getting 2 enchilada dinners (without cheese, ???) and everything for free. Fine, but we want it to go. We had been there for 2 hours and ate way too many chips that we're not even sure if we are hungry anymore.
Finally, we leave and decide just to go home, we will probably see the fireworks as we are walking home anyway. As we are getting closer to home, we see fireworks, but not the "real" ones, but ones set off by idiots in our neighborhood, (which the other night K and the dog almost got burnt by). I wish for once we could live somewhere where this didn't happen a week before and during the 4th.
Alas, we were finally home, the babies were very much freaked out by the fireworks and the shaking of the house. The food wasn't all that good, and to top it all off, I forgot my $2.65 pretty pitcher I bought, at the restaurant, which was the best part of the night....
