It's In The Bag : Skate Edition

Feb 14, 2013 12:29

So I totally spent all of the dark hours writing a thesis chapter, which was great, but I'm kinda hung over from it. Been skating this morning; couldn't spin at all but the loop's still there (woo!), and now I'm easing back into the whole computer interface thing slowly... by faffing about on LJ.

A while ago, there was that bag meme, and after I told akachankami that the contents of my bag would probably shock her, she dared me to make them public. But I wasn't talking a bag of meth, a .45, or fluffy handcuffs. I meant scungy old receipts and maybe a lip balm I thought I'd lost. Classy.

Then I was unpacking my skates after training and realized how much stuff I schlep to the rink all the time, and... here it is, dumped artistically on the living room floor. Scungy receipts not included.

I hope the numbers match, because I can't count on a good day, let alone after no sleep.

  1. The bag. Old schoolbag. And before anyone says "Zuca", I have nowhere to park one.
  2. Skates. Obviously! Only had 'em since the end of last year, which is why they are so disgustingly white and pretty. They have exactly two nicks on them.
  3. Penguin blade soakers. YES PENGUINS SHUT UP. (I also have monkeys, plus plain purple toweling for when I want to be all mature and coachy and shit.)
  4. Wallet. Coaches like to get paid, oddly enough.
  5. Boot covers. I loathe wearing these - the look, the feel, everything about it. I was wearing them to protect my new boots, but I'm starting to be over that.
  6. Cycle gloves. I skate in these 99% of the time. Note padding and lack of fingers. I like cold fingertips on the ice. They only had an ugly green, so I colored the green parts in black with a Sharpie, which is so fourth form, but it worked.
  7. Nappy. Yes, an old cloth nappy. Best blade towel ever - I mean, they're made to be absorbent, right?
  8. Arnica extra strength gel. It's a little tube of GOLD that makes the bruises nice 'n' purple nice 'n' quick.
  9. Old laces from previous boots. Manky, aren't they? I should throw them out. I mean, my new ones came with actual bling on them, so no contest.
  10. Class roll. I have no idea why I have this. It must be three terms old, because they're all on iPad now.
  11. iPod(s) and in-ear 'phones with hooks. You try going in for a jump when your earbud's falling out. D:
  12. Hand sanitizer. With all those grubby kids hanging off the barrier? You bet your ass I have a bottle of this.
  13. Lip balm. Cold = chapped.
  14. A lonely Band-aid. Hmm. I need to replenish that stock. Also, where the hell did all my Panadol go?
  15. Regrind ticket. Well. That IS old.
  16. Pen. For writing all the footwork down so I don't forget it and get told off, LOL.
  17. Dance patterns. I love ice dance - it's a total workout, and what it does for your edges... epic.
  18. ALL OF THE TISSUES. Plus some napkins I stole from the café when I had no tissues. Must have tissues.
  19. Silicone tubes. They go around my ankles, to help while the new skates soften around the top. I love them as much as it is possible to love two slightly medical-looking tubes. ♥
  20. Notebooks. Patterns, lesson plans, footwork, program notes, random other stuff...
  21. Music for last year's competitions.
  22. Fuzzy $2 Shop gloves for when I have to skate at the other rink, which is always super cold. Yes, they need a wash. :P
  23. Guards. Which I do not use as much as I should. They need cutting because my new blades are shorter and don't fit, but they were in the bottom of the bag, so...
And there you have it. In case you're wondering, yes, it does all weigh a frakton. :)

Right, and now off to deal to Chapter Four before I need a nana nap this afternoon…

omg i have a meme tag now, the giddy linguist, piccies, skating, ..., show and tell
