Life Update: June 2015 - August 2016

Now's as good a time as any to make an entry. It's been just over a year and a quarter since my last one.

The last year has been extremely... sad and frustrating, to say the least. Some good has happened, but... well, it hasn't really been enough.

There were some family health scares the last year. Thankfully, they've been ridden out and everyone is okay. I'm really grateful that my family is all still here and it worries me that I'll have to deal with the inevitable someday.
I thought I was prepared for it, but I couldn't even handle my friend's pet dying the other month. I don't know what will happen when someone in my family leaves us...

But anyway, we had our Christmas get together, just like every year. It was fun and relieving. I also went to my cousin's for Thanksgiving again. Hoping we get to do it for a third year this time too. We also had a dinner party for my Aunt's birthday a few months ago and are having another for my Uncle's sister in a little over a week.

As for relationships... not much to say there. I mentioned last year that my sorta-relationship of 3 years had come to an end. Since then, I've only really had a crush on one person, but it wasn't meant to be. She's really sweet, but I think her standards are a little too strict for my current way of life. I honestly wish I was more in line with them (since they were standards I wanted to reach anyway in life), but even so, she started seeing someone else, so whatever. We're still friends.

I've come to openly accept that I'm bisexual. But I'm a very picky person. I don't ever see myself forming a permanent relationship with a guy. They call it being "hetero-romantic", but I honestly have no clue what I am. I don't really care, but being flirty with everyone is fun as long as they're in on it too! When someone great comes along, then things can change.

I'm now over three years into unemployment and my search has led... nowhere. I've applied everywhere, tried everything, even asked others for help... but it just hasn't resulted in anything. My younger brother graduated college and pretty much just walked into a career in television production less than a week later thanks to his friend. I wish I had a friend who could get me in somewhere substantial...

I have long-mentioned on here that I wanted to go into voice acting, and I might still attempt to, but as I thought about it more, I realized that birds are a very important part of my life. I think, given the chance, I would like to go back to school and earn a Zoology degree to work in Ornithology someday. I wouldn't mind doing messy field work, if that's what it took to have a career with birds.

My laptop that I got at the end of 2010 ("Garterbelt", named after the Panty & Stocking character) suffered a major crash early August of last year. It managed to hold on until January, but from then until now, I haven't had a computer and have had to do everything from either my brother's computer or my iPhone. It was a bit messy, but someone extremely generous gave me a laptop they weren't using this past week. After fiddling with it for a while, it's finally up and running, to specs that are pretty good, actually. Windows 10 is nice once you get by all the annoyances.
I haven't given this computer a name yet, but given the trend of having G-names (the laptop before the last one was named "Gerako" by it's owner, Cammi) and my love of birds... I'll find something.

Speaking of birds, last October, I started a niche Twitter account called @RTyourbird, dedicated to posting submitted bird characters for other people to retweet. Within a week it had 200 followers and just this past month, it actually surpassed the amount of followers my personal Twitter account has! I've had it since 2009, so it's a pretty big accomplishment. I still run it daily and I don't intend to stop anytime soon.

So that's pretty much where I am now. I've gotten really into anime again this past year. I've always made time for Toonami on Saturdays since it came back in 2012, but I've also watched quite a few subbed shows. One Punch Man, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure (finally, amirite?), Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans and Unicorn, the Ace Attorney anime, Dragon Ball Super, and Macross Delta. Plus, I've been keeping up with the Digimon Adventure tri. movies. It's amazing that they went back to the story line from the first two seasons and continued it in a way that's appealing to the now-adults who grew up with the originals!

I haven't been able to play too many new games because of not having money, though I did play both of the Rhythm Heaven games I hadn't (Fever and Megamix), the third Zero Escape game which we all waited four years for (and, for the most part, not disappointed by), and everyone's favorite indie game of all time, Undertale. I don't know how I'll afford it, but I'm looking forward to Pokemon Sun and Moon in November.

Oh yeah, and Pokemon GO. Everyone's been playing that. I've pretty much hit all of my goals for the current iteration, but I'm still gonna play it on and off until the next major content update for it.

I've also been pretty invested in some game streams the last few years. I've mentioned Vinesauce a few entries ago and I'm still with the community there, slowly integrating more and more with it. They're great people! I've also watched the last four Games Done Quick events. They've really gained popularity the last couple years and it's amazing to watch these speedrunners destroy games for a good cause.

Now that I'm all set up with a new laptop that runs well, I was thinking about spending my spare time getting into game streaming and practicing voiceover stuff. I had actually wanted to do more of both last year, but the crash happened. As soon as a replacement controller comes in, I'm going to be streaming fairly regularly. I probably won't post about it here since no one's around, but if you're curious, stop by my Twitch page. There's links there to other sites I'm on too.

Anyway, I've rambled long enough. I'm sure I didn't cover everything of note that happened over the last 14 months, but I'm tired. Maybe I'll make another entry in another year. Or less. Or more. Who knows.
