Day 2! We got up at 6:30 and went to breakfast a little after 7am. We ate, did dishes, and then hiked about 40 minutes to our worksite of the day. We were essentially putting earth/dirt into little plastic bags, where the farmers will later plant the coffee and let it start to grow, and then transfer them into the ground.

We had a late lunch after working all morning with some of the farmers and their kids - who were so freaking good at filling the bags, geez. Anyway, we ate lunch on the rocks down by the river, which was really nice, and then we had a question and answer session with Missael, who works for the NGO, and Cesar, who owns the land we worked on today. Oren, who's Venezuelan, and I translated, which was fun.

It was so pretty down by the river/creek.
Hello! I was very dirty.
We walked back to our community building and had a mini-info session where we made a list of rules and talked a little bit about living in a community, etc. We learned how to take bucket showers and then had about an hour break for people to shower. There was, of course, drama among the girls over who could shower when, but it got sorted out. I ended up showering last, in the dark - which was not terribly pleasant, but I do feel surprisingly clean.
We went to Carmen's for dinner, like all our meals, and we had plantains and tortillas and peanut butter, which was very exciting. I got really tired near the end of the meal, so I was sort of quiet and zoned out.
After dinner, we had a discussion session that focused a lot on the "universe of obligation" and our ethical obligations to other people. It was interesting - haha, that sounds pretty lame, but true.
Anyway, bedtime now.
Random - a shot of the one of the houses (shacks?) that we passed every day in El Horno.
