The first round of my SEM project failed miserably. The buffer I was using had too high of a salt concentration and caused all the cells to shrivel. Pretty pictures were taken (

I prepared new samples, this time one set with a much lower salt concentration (.05M rather than .2M), and one step skipping gluteraldehyde fixation completely (which I have very little hope for). I'm sputter coating them Monday, so I'll see how well they come out then. This is probably going to be my last set of samples due to time constraints, but at least I actually will have done more than one set.
I applied to a summer research program at the University of Michigan cancer research center. It was a pain to physically get the paperwork to where it needed to be, thanks to waiting too long to snail-mail it and the office it was being delivered to being in a restricted area, but I managed to get it in, through charm or more likely sympathy or apathy. I don't expect to actually get the internship, as the application said that the group was mostly interested in minorities, but my hope is that so few people applied that they have to take some white guy to have a large enough group.
My cat had to be put down two weeks ago. He was getting too old, had diabetes, and was vomiting a lot. It sucks going back to my parents' house now, since I'd usually chill with him while doing my homework and he'd sleep on my bed.
I've got some odd lower abdomen pain. I've had it for a few weeks now, and it's getting worse, so I actually bothered to go to a doctor. They had no idea what was wrong, so I had to get a blood test among other things. I can deal with that, as long as I don't have to think about it. The nurse taking the draw was very competent and did a good job, other than the fact that she wouldn't stop talking about blood draws and shots, which resulted in me starting to pass out. I managed to stay conscious, but my vision did start going green/blue and staticy and my hearing became muffled.
My bike was stolen on April 1st, so that's pissing me off a bit too. Especially considering it was an expensive bike when I first got it and it was stolen from inside the locked apartment building's basement.
