Question, thoughts (ranting)
Anyone here belong to their local YMCA? We're considering joining. We need to get out of the house to exercise (and save sanity) and we figure that way Ana can enjoy activities as well. In addition to the socialization she'll get in the care center while we workout, they have soccer and flag football as young as 3. (She'll be there in November!) Any thoughts are encouraged. I know I swam at the Y when younger, but I've never been particularly active in it, ever.
I hate the right-wing, paranoid "Christian" bigots in my state. I don't know why everyone wants to move to Florida when it's one of the most backward, repressed and intolerant states I've ever been in - Gay Days aside. Plenty of people hate that, trust me. (It's ok, "Rock The Universe" is next week at Universal) Now in their infinite wisdom, even though it's already against the law in 4 DIFFERENT PLACES in state judiciary policy, they want to create a state amendment that defines marriage as a man and a woman and gives that union special privilege.
Which means, even if you aren't gay, you're potentially fucked. Because 'domestic partner' can be anyone who isn't married to you. You can be denied a place at your significant others bedside in the hospital. Kicked out of the family home after a death by relatives because you have no legal rights, even if you were paying the bills. One state even had a case of some asshole who argued he wasn't technically guilty of 'domestic violence' for hitting his girlfriend. Thankfully that got overturned at the state level, but I'm sure it took awhile.
So please, if you live in Florida (and I know some of you do!!), do your rights and the rights of *everyone* else a favor and vote NO on amendment 2. You don't have to like gays. But if you vote yes, and then a straight relative of yours gets fucked-over by this law (like losing their healthcare benefits) don't come crying to me. I'll be shouting "I TOLD YOU SO" too loud to hear you.
