Rant-of-the-Day

It's a 'small' thing, but I was watching TV, lying down w/ Ana while she took a nap and I saw this stupid commercial again. The one for Lysol disinfecting wipes where they say that if you are cleaning with an over-used sponge, you might as well be wiping down your counters with raw chicken?
Ugh. Talk about marketing to fear! The sad part is, I know darn well there's a whole class of people out there who ditched their sponges because they are 'dirty' and wipes are now their best friend. I think it's pathetic, personally, and shows just how much some people have no common sense. These must be the same yahoos who pass me on these email chain letters that are supposed to bring me good luck or dumb stories about how to protect myself that do more harm than good if applied.
If your sponge is used - CHANGE IT. Wow, how hard was that?! And even if it had some germs in it, wouldn't the same spray cleaner you are using to kill the germs on your counter kill the ones IN YOUR SPONGE?!
Or hey, even better - use washable, re-useable washcloths! What a concept. Someone in my Flylady local group turned me on to this idea about a year ago and I feel like a moron for ever spending $$ every month on disposable sponges. Use 1 per day, then toss it in the wash! If you buy a cheap pack of like 12, you'll still have enough to use 1 for dishes and 1 for the counter before you do laundry again.
There is absolutely no reason, even if you are a germophobe, to use disposable stuff. All it does is land cleaners and a ton of those disposable wipes in a landfill somewhere. Hell, while you are at it, get rid of disposable as much as you can. I just recently hijacked a soft shirt Scott no longer wears and one of mine that has been stained. They are going to be handkerchiefs. But by all means - the world might just up and stop rotating if you don't buy Kleenex! Or those Puffs, because your poor nose needs lotion-based paper on it since using the soft cotton re-useable handkerchief went out of style. *facepalm*
