Another Wonderful Ebay Experience

Dec 15, 2006 16:12

Alright... so, I've been dealing with this guy/chick/ungendered butthole/bi-gendered sea-slug for days now, when I'd received Jurassic Park for SNES (just as much for my bro as for me) over ebay and it arrived broken. No evidence of it being due to shipping. Thing is, I got it for 99 cents free shipping, and here it'd cost me more to send it back than I'd get from the refund. Therein lay the problem of returning it. So I wanted to reach a compromise with the seller... How dare I?! :/

Whole exchange here, uncut and uncensored for your viewing displeasure:

Hello, I have just received the game today. The packaging was good, in excellent shape, no signs of rough treatment. However, the moment I got it out of the package, I could feel that something was loose inside. Tilting the cartridge back and forth in my hands, I can hear/feel something moving. I tried it to see if it would still work, but the screen is completely black. It is not my SNES, as other games work on it, I tried others right before and after the JP cartridge.

In other words, it seems to be broken. Multiple attempts have yielded the same results.

Hopefully something can be resolved. Thank you.

I am so sorry I can not imagine what could be wrong with it!!! If you will send it back to me I will be more than happy to refund your .99. Again please accept my sincerest apologies for the United States Postal Service. This is a first for me. I will immediately issue your refund upon reciept of the game. Thank you so much for letting me know.

Well, sending the broken game back doesn't seem like much of an option for me... it'll cost me more than the 99 cents I'd get back for it.

As I'd said, it doesn't really look like it was the post office's fault; the package was in good condition and you had bubbles in it to protect it.

Since I looked more closely at the game, it has dents on the side as if it'd been slammed into a hard surface before I got it. If it worked before, then it must have been on its last legs and loose inside.

I'm not sure what to do now. I know a buck ain't much but with my low income I still have to watch all I've got.

Ok first of all I tested the game before I listed it as I do all my games. The game worked great! I am sorry you think I deliberately listed a broken game (that is what you are implying) If you look at my feedback you will see 400+ people have recieved their items as described. Why do you expect me to be out another .99 plus what it cost me to list, pack and ship your item? You are exagerating the condition of the game I take pictures of all items before I ship. I am sorry but this game was used and as is! And most important worked when I shipped. God Bless You!

bacon_bacon_bacon:

Excuse me, I never said that I expect you to be out the money in such a manner. All I know is I bought this product trusting you based on your feedback, as you said.

The dents are not large. I told you it took time for me to even notice them. But compressed angles of plastic can only be done like this through impact or pressure. And considering the location of these (the narrow edge of the cartridge), and the fact that the envelope shows no stress signs that would have resulted from such in delivery, I could only make a guess based on what I had in front of me; a rattling cartridge that doesn't work.

I said I wasn't sure what to do because we would BOTH be out money in this case. It did not say as-is but did have a return policy on the site, and I did report the problem within the allotted time as actually sending that quickly was out of the question.

I know you're frustrated, but so am I, as we both have the right to be in this situation. I just want us to find a compromise.

Dear OCD, (Note: This stands for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, doesn't it...?)
I do not know what you want? You realize you are making a Huge Deal over .99. Put the game in the Garbage! I will Pay you to leave me alone! It is well worth .99 Do Not Leave Bad Feedback! You will get WAY worse. If I refund you .99 will you never email me again?

---
bacon_bacon_bacon:

...I really was trying to be civil, and now you're threatening me about feedback? With how patiently and often I've been contacting you, why would you think I would just up and leave negative feedback without resolving things first? I would have already done it if I were that kind of person. As I'd said, I wanted us to work things out in a civil manner instead.

But now you're being mean to me. What should it matter that 99 cents does mean a lot to someone living far below the poverty line, that I only spent that much as a present for my brother?

But fine, I'll accept your offer of refund. The feedback will not be negative in that light, but cannot truly be positive either unless I'm convinced that you didn't mean to seem so angry with me. Maybe you're just having a bad day or worded things wrong, since some things can be difficult to express in text.

elmer1919elmer:

Ok I do not know what you want from me! I am not having a bad day Believe it or not there are alot of crooks and nuts that buy on ebay. This is a job for me so I care about my costumers. I am trying to be fair. When you attack a persons reputation it is only natural that person will be a little offended. But I know that no matter how we resolve this you may click on postive feedback but you will probably write ugly feedback. So us continuing to discuss this further is useless. PLEASE short and sweet what is it you want to resolve another game a refund? What PLEASE tell me!

---
bacon_bacon_bacon (note: I know I agreed not to email him again, however, he specifically asked me to answer his question, so I decided on a compromise.) :

That's right, you attacking my reputation DID offend me. But as I've been trying to show this whole time, I'm a patient person, so forgive you. 50 cent refund and we'll call it even.

---
elmer1919elmer:

.50 cent? YOU ARE CRAZY PERSON! I have reported you to ebay and paypal. Pal! so go ahead and email me again. You are officially blocked from emailing me you are being watched by ebay and they said if you send any more threatening email you will be permenatly suspended from buying on ebay
---

Yeah, cares about his customers, obviously...

I've not left him feedback yet, as I'm gonna see what happens considering I've likewise reported him, with a link to a document containing our whole exchange. Hopefully ebay will do something that'll get him to reconsider a compromise. And I'll base my feedback on that result.

I realize I should have just accepted his earlier offer without a word of rebuttal, but then I wouldn't have known what to do about feedback; I'd have left him negative and then he'd have retalliated saying I didn't try to resolve things or misunderstood. I wanted to make absolutely sure I understood whether or not he was really insulting me, and give him time to realize it and apologize. But... yeah... that went well. :P
