So, 'my' cast just had our first run through of Midsummers...

Afterwards, we had private notes.

Director: You hate Shakespeare don't you?
Me: Yes.
Director: It shows.

Definitely not an encouraging start.

After that though, he was encouraging and justified his question by explaining that i'm not letting the language work, and instead i'm working too hard and not trusting in the actual text.

His advice? Stop trying so hard.

Which, when you want to get a good mark, is the hardest direction of all.

However, he was perfectly valid. My Oberon tonight was so ridiculously aggressive. I think i was overcompensating for my sometimes lapses of efenimacy by mounting a full on assualt upon the fairy world and Puck's misgivings. Richard, the director, just said it was fundamentally 'horrible.'

Well, at least i've got 6 days to sort this shit out.
