What generally passes for agriculture these days is really anything but. "Culture" after all, refers to the reproduction of life, the construction of social existence. What Monsanto and friends are doing is not that. It is agribusiness, or the food-stuffs industry, but it is not agriculture. It is really an extractive industry, a form of biologically assisted mining that generates massive profits at the expense of people and the planet.
