New Years Eve :D

We had a lovely party on the top of the Astronomy Tower last night, which was New Years Eve. And to think, in less than 4 hours, I'll be scooting off to The Burrow for a New Years bash there. Time zones are quite nifty, lol.

After dinner, us students proceeded to the Astronomy Tower- on the roof, you can really see for miles all around. Professor Flitwick was materialising seats and blankets for everyone (it's been known to get quite cold) while some flagons of pumpkin juice and barrels of butterbeer were being sent up by Professor McGonagall. All we really had to do was find a comfortable place to sit and wait- I got a lovely chintz chair with a paisley ottaman.

There wasn't long to wait. Just as we'd all settled down and all the refreshments had been brought up, the first round of fireworks started- nine o clock sharp. They were really wonderful, all these bright colours just exploding in the sky and even though the fireworks had been set off as far down as Hogsmeade, there was a heavy shimmery veil of gold over us on the roof of the Tower-remnants of the Fireworks, or something. :)

We had been given the option of going down to Hogsmeade for the village party, but I figured it'd be every cold and late up the time the midnight fireworks went off, and I wasn't looking forward to scaling the hills back to Hogwarts, at any rate.

There was three hours till the midnight fireworks, during which most of the girls just giggled and talked. Pansy and I sat with the Slytherin Quidditch Team- we told lots of rude jokes and did an awful lot of shrieking, and it was almost midnight when Pansy said she needed to go to the bathroom. Too much Butterbeer, mixed with cauldron cakes and large amounts of inhaled gold fireworks dust obviously wasn't going well with her stomach.

So, we scooted down the stairs and across the courtyard and hurried towards the nearest bathroom. Pansy seemed to be coping well in a space which didn't have a 1:1 gold dust:air ratio, so we stayed there for a while. Then we heard a large amount of cheering from the Astronomy Tower.

"10...9...8...7...6..."

We ran across the courtyard as quickly as our nightgowns would allow, but we heard the "2...ONE!!!!" at the same time as a deafening explosion took place above us. Behind the castle, we could see the beginning of what promised to be a good show. I figured there wasn't much time to run back up to the tower, so instead, we swooped past the Entrance Hall and out the front, near the giant lake. It was amazing. Some areas of the lake were melted and other places still had their coating of ice. We saw the sparks of the fireworks reflected on the surface of the lake, enthusiastic colours just dancing on the water! It was just so beautiful!

After the fireworks display, we made our way back to the Astronomy Tower- some of the students had decided to stay up while others were making their way down. Pansy and I slept on the room of the Tower with the Slytherin Quidditch Team and some first years.

I woke up this morning feeling rather groggy, the stone floor of the Tower didn't really agree with me- and I was pushed up against Warrington- one of the Slytherin Chasers. Pansy told me through giggles how I'd been punching him all night. I protested that he wasn't a comfortable pillow, or some silly excuse like that, but Pucey joined in with Parkinson, claiming I'd been hitting on Warrington, or something.

Not funny, Adrian.

Anyway, a Happy New Year to you all! Lol- I'll be attending a party at The Burrow in a few hours- must prepare.
