Last night I (perhaps unwisely) went out for a few drinks with my roommate and her coworker. It was a quiet night, but I wound up staying awake much later than I should have. I got my sleeping schedule normalized for awhile, but completely ruined it this weekend.
Today I finished writing all the text for my upcoming Sergio Martino zine and edited it all down. I have about 20 pages of text, which is perfect for a 40 page zine. Now I just need to print the text and pictures, which is always kind of soul crushingly tedious.
Earlier this evening (when it gets dark out, it counts as evening even if it's only four p.m.) I listened to a training session about getting certified to teach English abroad. It was very informative, but also very confusing because there are SO MANY options. I obviously want to think this out and make the right choice in terms of finances and resume-boosting, so I think I'm going to have to make a spreadsheet with prices, dates, countries and programs just to help orient myself. It seems like the basic options are as follows:
-An online certification. These are self-paced and around $500.
-In-class certification in the U.S., which are around $1000, but involve teaching experience and life-long job placement assistance.
-In-class in a foreign country, which are around $2000, but involve teaching experience, life-long job placement assistance, and living in another country for four weeks. I think most students transition into a job right from the program in their country of choice.
-There is also an internship option, which are only in selected countries (at least in the program I'm looking into). They are $2000, but are 8 months long and during that time you a) go to class and get certified with all the in-class benefits and b) get a job teaching and get paid, plus great resume experience. And you get a work visa directly from the employer.
Honestly, the more I think about it, the last option sounds the best, but right now it isn't the most practical. The programs I looked at start January 1st and November 30th is the application deadline. There's no way I can make a life decision like that in a week, let alone have a month to move out of my house and prepare myself for the next year in another country. I think I'll wind up doing one of the four week programs in another country, but I need to do more research (and planning) first.
Now I have to brave the grocery store. I should have gone early this morning, but alas, I am a horrible procrastinator.
