“That’s it. You’re doing great, Okamoto-kun!”

Keito took a fourth and fifth shaky step towards his physiotherapist. Everything below his waist burned significantly less. Taking his eyes off his feet, Keito was met with a glowing smile only Arioka Daiki was capable of.

“It’s nice to see you agree. Welcome back.”

Hikaru wasn’t the type to pace when he got nervous. Usually he would sit perfectly still, lean his head back, close his eyes and distract himself with a familiar tune. Yuya wasn’t entirely sure why today was different.

“Hikaru-kun…” he called, but the other didn’t stop pacing. If anything, it quickened.

“Yuya, why are you so calm?”

“Huh? Why shouldn’t I be?”

“It’s odd.”

“You’re acting even odder, but you don’t see me telling you to stop.”

“What if we don’t make it?”

“You were really great out there; I don’t see how you wouldn’t get it!”

Hikaru stopped and looked around the filled waiting room. Every man and woman in this room wanted a chance to model for Masuda Takahisa, but how many of them were good enough?

On the other side of the room, the door clicked open and in walked one of the members on the judging panel. If Yuya could remember correctly, it was the photographer, Kato Shigeaki.

Hikaru reached for Yuya’s hand and held it tight.

They waited for the mob of candidates to lessen before approaching the freshly printed list. Some walked away smiling, many walked away cursing and with glassy eyes.

Taking a deep breath the pair took a step forward. After sifting through the crowd, their eyes scanned the list; hands remained locked in a vice grip.

“We’ll walk down a runway, together, one day,” Hikaru verbally recalled Yuya’s youthful promise. Even to this day, Yuya wasn’t one to let those that he loved down.

Keito hated confrontation. He’s hated it since his parents’ divorce when they wrongfully made him choose which parent he wanted to live with. It was the way they stared down at him that made him squirm.

“Choose!”

I can’t.

“Please Keito, before Kaichou-chan pops a vein in his neck.”

“Shut up!”

I like both of you.

“KEITO!” Yuto screamed.

Keito replied with his own cry as he fell to his knees, buried his head into his hands and felt tears begin to splash his palms.

He really hated confrontation.

Keito felt a hand gently rest on his shoulder. Looking up, he came face-to-face with an uncharacteristically serious Ryosuke.

“Choose Yuto,” Ryosuke whispered to him, “I heard the kid is having problems at home. He could use the stability.”

“But what about --”

The smile Ryosuke flashed was lacking all of its usual cheer.

Keito had always been fond of compromise.
