Brrr, it sure was cold today. -33C all through the afternoon. I went out anyway, but I must admit, I had second-thoughts for a while there. Man, I can hardly wait for spring. It will be so nice to go out without having to put on a million layers.

I took a different bus route from the usual today, and it took me through an residential area that I usually don't go through - one with a ton of PokeGo gyms and pokestops. Lots of geocaches in the area, too. Maybe when it starts to get a little warmer, I'll go through that area on foot and see if I can find some of those caches. Mind you, a lot of them are in the Birchwood Trails, and I'm unsure if the municipality has finished its controlled burning in that area, but... eh, I'll have to check. I definitely want to do some forest exploring and hiking before bear season starts again, at any rate.

Going through that part of the city was a little unnerving, though. Some of the houses along that bus route are ones that were affected by the wildfire*. A few have been demolished, but others are just... there, fenced-off. They look like they've been bombed or something, because these are the ones that exploded, and said explosions went through the roof. It's eerie.

*For those who are new to my journal: There was an enormous wildfire back in May that overwhelmed my city. 90K people evacuated, some neighbourhoods completely destroyed, roughly 6,000km2 burned in total. I don't really like talking about it, but it's part of everyday life here because we - the city - are still in the recovery/rebuilding stages, so the subject will come up occasionally.

...Anyway.

My library trip wasn't quite as fruitful as I'd hoped. They didn't have Ed Riche's Rare Birds, which means I'm going to have to dig through some storage boxes to find my copy of it, if I decide that I do want to re-read it. But they did have his most recent novel, Today I Learned It Was You, so that's all right. Aside from that, I picked up a random volume of Canadian poetry - this time it's Frogs in the Rain Barrel by Sally Ito. It's very possible that some day I'll get through the entirety of our library's Canadian poetry collection, but that day isn't today.

I also found myself checking out a poetry anthology, which isn't my typical modus operandi, since they tend to be Too Much for me to take in at once. But sometimes I make exceptions. This one is specifically on Chinese poetry - both classical and modern. The library didn't really have anything else for Chinese poetry in English, and I've been hankering to read some because of [/cough] Reasons. ...One of those reasons is the the fact that my favourite poet, Olav H. Hauge, was a great reader/admirer of Chinese poetry, and Li Po/Li Bai in particular, so I've been curious for a while as to what influence he might have taken etc etc. (I could never dream of being as good a poet as Hauge, but oh, if I could write with even a fraction of his skill...) But a large part it's also because of [/COUGH] reasons. :D I don't even know what I'm looking for, exactly, but who knows, maybe I'll find some inspiration here.

It looks like it's going to be a cold, quiet weekend. I'm going to spend as much time as I can curled up with tea and books, I think. <3
