It's a good thing I didn't watch Livide in the dark because if I had, I probably would have freaked myself out. Either I am getting more sensitive toward horror movies as time goes on, or it was actually scary. It's been a while since I watched something like that, so it's hard for me to be sure.
It was ages since I saw that gif of the bloody undead ballerina on tumblr but I'm glad I finally got around to watching the film, it was pretty enjoyable. And I ended up shipping the main character with the corpsegirl... but it makes sense, I swear!
For some reason it isn't uncommon for me to fall into femslash ships for random horror movies that do not have any fandom whatsoever. Like this one. And The Haunting (the original). And Fritt Vilt II. What.
It took me a while to get into this film, but once it got going, I was pretty creeped out. So much so that I kept pausing the movie, PFF. But that might just be that I'm a weenie... Lots of creepy-ass scenes in it, though.
In terms of visuals, I thought it was pretty nice. It was filmed in a really attractive way, y'know? Though that becomes more obvious once it gets going. Some of it is kind of ehh but there are some scenes that are just really gorgeous (though some are gorgeous in a grotesque way).
I love what they did with the relationship between the two girls, though. I found it a bit unconventional. Having them grow close without even speaking, the sympathy for Anna's horrible situation. "You're not dead, you're just broken"... ah. And then she is fixed. Yes. And then that scene where they're cuddling together after everything is over -- it was just sweet.
The way they teamed up together to defeat the horror is what really transformed it from being just another haunted house movie, I think. Then again, maybe I just don't watch many horror films with monsters that I feel genuinely sympathetic and sorrowful for.
...Anyway. Hopefully I won't end up getting nightmares from this, PFF. I should know better than to creep myself out with horror movies.
