There are a couple of tricks you can use in times when the characters suddenly demand more time to talk, because when they do you'll have to comply. It's just the way it is. If you force your own idea the end result will please none of them and neither you, but you can always give them their time AND have it your way. You can f.ex.
- Split their chat along the story. That gives you a freedom of moving straight into the next scene while the characters can still have their chat in the fic.
- Let them have their talk first and then shorten it as one of the characters simply remembering what was just said. This, I think, is exactly what you meant by cutting 2k words out in the end. :D
- Let them have it their way. Sometimes a long pause in a fic works perfectly, especially if the next scene is going to see a lot of action.
For now, what I'm going to do is just... write out everything that seems to want to be written out. And then after I'm done I'm going to take machete to it. Metaphorically.
It's possible that I'm just getting impatient with it because I want this porn scene to be over so that I can write the cute fluff that comes after it. I keep thinking "Ugh, for fuck's sake, just stick it in already! щ(◉益 ◉щ) " Ffffffff but I'll just... keep powering through it until it's done, I guess.
