Since the hurricane Katrina/New Orleans disaster my dad has been totally sick and worried about our family. My very close aunt lives in New Orleans but luckily evacuated before the flooding and is doing fine. My grandpa who is 90 years old is in a nursing home in Mississippi along with my dads cousins. So my dad being this rational action taker decided to buy a huge amount of food and supplies and pretty much go to find his family. Not thinking about the dangers that he could have gotten himself into. Of course I wanted to do something to help but I thought he was crazy since they weren't even letting people in that area then. He left Friday heading for the gulf not knowing what might ahead and what his journey might bring him. Now that I think about it I realize how genuinely caring he was and it actually brings me to tears. He loves his dad so much and was so worried about him he risked his safety to get to him and make sure he was safe. My dad told me that when they walked into his room, that my grandpa's face lit up. Im sure at that time my dad was about to break down into tears but yeah thinking about that was touching. My dad also told me that as he was traveling and stopping at different gas stations he met up with alot of people leaving New orleans so he gave them bags full of food and supplies since we had his car packed full with everything you can imagine. Even though he didn't even know them or anything he effected their life and helped out. and.. Even though I couldn't physically give out food and help my dad, he represented the whole family and that makes me feel very proud. He then finally made it to his cousins house, got in touch wiht them, and gave them the rest of the food. He said that when he was driving there wasn't a single tree still standing but when he got to his cousins house it was fine and all the trees had fallen over away from the house. That was the best news ever. I know God had a major part in that because we had a huge army of people praying for them. Now my dad is coming home and im sure he can't wait to get back. I think seeing horrible devastation everywhere can get to someone very quickly,
As we all can see on tv the devastation is not over but even getting worse as time goes by. My heart goes out to all those people. I can't imagine the feeling of losing everything you have. As I stare at the video of helicopter views of New Orleans is just horrifying. New orleans is always a happy, good food, fun living, music playing city. There is always a party to be found no matter what time it is. It really is such a unique city. I mean there is no other city in the world like it. Every time ive been there I have more and more fun because it just never gets old. The food is soooo good. There are always people on the streets playing instruments, dancing, or just tryng to entertain for money. So many really good musicians trying to make a living playing their hearts out on the streets. Its extremely heartbreaking to see the city like a ghost town let alone seeing all the helpless people. I mean New Orleans is like hell right now. It seems like what we are watching on tv is some movie because it is just so shocking. This is really happening. New Olreans is under water and thousands of people have died. I can't even imagine how it would feel to go through something like that.
Yeah and im really sick of hearing crap like....Bush purposely didn't send help cuz hes racist and that this was all planned to flood New Orleans. I mean come on seriously! thats the most absurd thing ive heard. Im not saying that there isn't any racial problems because unfortunately there is and always will be...But to go to that extent and say that is so crazy. Its a shame that even in such devastation people still can't forget about their differences, pull together, and get along.
All I can say is pray pray pray and give all you can.
And thank you to all who have donated to the fund im trying to get together and those of you who have given to the victims on your own.
and to Miss Melissa Mage: I am totally up for a mission trip to help the victims and kids. That would be so awesome to do.
I <3 NEW ORLEANS!
