Summary: They just had to get through it together, and it was enough, because they knew what the other felt.

2008

Yunho slipped his arms around Jaejoong’s waist in the kitchen at 1AM, when the lights were off and nobody else was around. And it hurt, because Yunho hadn’t come to him like this during the day, when they had company or when their window binds were open. But Jaejoong was in love, and he could only respond by pushing himself closer and burying his face in the taller male’s neck, because he could never resist, could never refuse. They only ever had a few moments like this together a week, and he wasn’t going to miss the chance.

“I love you,” he heard the breathy words whispered into his ear, giving him warmth, and Jaejoong closed his eyes, fingers almost desperately clinging to the back of the brunet’s t-shirt. The way his heart always began to race felt like he was hearing it for the first time over and over again.

He didn’t have to say it aloud. Yunho already knew by the way he pressed impossibly close, and kissed him softly on the cheek. Yunho knew by the way his arms slid around his neck, the way their chests touched. He knew by the way that instead of going to sleep, Jaejoong would choose to spend four hours awake with him in the darkness of their kitchen, in the silence as they held each other tight.

“You look beautiful,” Yunho murmured, gazing right into his eyes, and Jaejoong couldn’t believe that after all these years, he could still feel the way his cheeks burned, almost flustered, “Not to say that you don’t look beautiful on other days. You know what I mean.”

If he wasn’t so jittery, a mixture of anxious and giddy, he would have laughed at the taller male’s words. “Thank you,” he whispered shyly instead, feeling a sudden warmth in his chest at the way Yunho smiled at him, an in-between of fond and amused, his eyes crinkling at the corners and Jaejoong felt himself falling a little further in love.

“You are adorable,” Yunho’s arm around his waist tightened and Jaejoong couldn’t help the blush. And he couldn’t help the laugh either this time, couldn’t help the way his fingers instinctively brushed over the younger male’s blazer. They looked at each other, and Jaejoong’s felt tears begin to brim when he saw the way the brunet’s eyes glistened. His hands reached up, cupping Yunho’s face, and he whispered,

“Don’t cry, my love.”

“I’m just happy,” the taller male leaned right into his touch, and Jaejoong smiled, thumb affectionately stroking the brunet’s cheek, feeling nothing but bliss.

“I know. I love you,” he said, the words not a whisper, not a murmur. Spoken out into the air, devoted and unafraid. And this time, it was Yunho who didn’t need to respond aloud. Jaejoong knew by the way Yunho leaned in immediately, arms around his waist and kissed him with all the love in the world. Jaejoong knew by the way Yunho smiled softly against his lips at the sound of joyful applause. Jaejoong knew by the way Yunho held him close and tight on their altar. Jaejoong knew Yunho loved him by the way that Yunho chose to spend the rest of his life with him and nobody else.

And when they gently pulled away, with their friends and family watching them with contentment, with Yunho kissing the ring on his finger without any hesitation, -looking elatedly at him like he meant the world- nothing else really mattered to the two of them.
